Albany- It started with one teen wanting to make a difference and spread to a group of her friends. Saturday, that group put on a concert to draw other young adults into the Katrina relief effort.
A dozen bands volunteered their time for a day long concert at Harvest Moon to raise money for Katrina's victims. The concert, the idea of 11th grader Haley Adams.
"To help the victims, local victims mainly that were affected by it, those who have come to Albany we wanted to raise money for them help them out a little bit get them back on their feet," said Adams of Sylvester.
So they're charged six dollars for the concert that started at noon, and hoped to get close to 200 other young adults out to show that their generation is doing it's part.
"You got bands coming from Tallahassee, Panama City, places like that and it shows the youth does care," said Chris Gleason of Sylvester.
Young adults have been touched by the devastation shown on TV.
"I watched the news after it happened and it just broke my heart because there are families out there that have absolutely nothing, homes broken down, I mean, people dead, the body count is high," said Gleason.
"People are thinking that the kids don't care very much, but doing it this way with the music is really getting the kids to be able to have a part and actually care about what's going on, other than themselves," said Brandy Marder a member of the band "The Audience".
That's why bands like "The Audience" traveled all the way from Tallahassee to donate their time and talents to be apart of the Albany relief effort.
"Our drummer Kelly she actually taught at one of the schools that was completely destroyed so a bunch of her kids that were there and everything too, so we're really taking this situation to heart," said Marder.
All of the proceeds from the concert will go the Albany chapter of the South Georgia American Red Cross.

Propelled by the driving rhythms of bassist Joe Duncan and drummer Kelli Swernigan [sic], and complimented by the skillful guitar playing of Jeremy Ferris and vocals of Brandy Marder the audience's sound is one that would fit in well with the days of mid-90's alternative rock. In a scene that has become inundated with nu-emo bands who spend more time applying their eye makeup than writing good music, the originality and attention to songwriting is a welcome breath of fresh air. On stage, it becomes apparent that this is a group of musicians who truly love what they do and it comes across in their stage presence drawing you in as the music rocks you out. Highlights of the set include "Brand New", an emotional and powerful song and "Certain Circumstance".

"Dumb to Believe" holds the record for most weeks at #1 on Gulf 104's "Top 3 at 8:20" (WGLF Tallahassee)
In June of 2006, the_aUdience recorded "Break Free," "Shut Up," and "Brand New" and in September 2006 recorded "Certain Circumstance," "Step," and "I Should". They will be returning to the studio in late March to record three more songs to complete their LP, due to be released this Summer.
In Summer 2006, "Break Free" was retired from Gulf 104's Top 3 at 8:20 after 6 consecutive weeks at #1.

the_aUdience is a band born out of the musical trends that have driven American culture for the past twenty years. Although two of the_aUdience's members are women, this is not an average pop-rock girl band. Their eclectic tastes in music mirror those of their fans, with an original sound that recalls the music of Tool, Pearl Jam, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Garbage, and No Doubt.
the_aUdience formed in October of 2004. One month later, they shared the stage together for the first time at a battle of the bands. Since then, they have written a dozen original songs and added an arsenal of covers from the 80s and 90s to their repertoire. The band performed live or on the radio more than sixty times in 2005. In addition to playing nearly every rock music venue in Tallahassee, they have performed in various cities throughout Florida, Georgia and Alabama. So far, the_aUdience has been invited to return to every venue they've played at.
The band's first single, "Dumb to Believe," has been played on radio stations in Tallahassee (FL), Panama City (FL), and Valdosta (GA). It currently holds the record for most requested song by a local band on WGLF-FM in Tallahassee, having spent nine weeks in a row in the top 3-- seven of which were at #1. the_aUdience recently recorded six more songs and are going back into the studio at the end of March to put the finishing touches on their LP. They expect to release their first album this Summer.
*Brandy Marder* (the singer) is a self-trained vocalist. She loves pop music (especially from the 80s) and is influenced most by Debbie Harry and Gwen Stefani. Brandy has been acting, dancing, and writing her own lyrics for many years, but until now had not found the right music to complement her creativity. Did we mention that we first heard her singing in a karaoke bar? She happily ditched the band-in-a-can to strut her stuff in front of some real live rockers.
*Jeremy Ferris* (the guitarist) is classically trained. He likes a variety of music, from Sevendust and Tool to the bluegrass bands on PBS. In addition to being a talented songwriter, Jeremy is an accomplished photographer.
*Joe Duncan* (the bassist) is a bass player with a flair for funk and jazzy moving bass lines. Joe is heavily influenced by Flea and Jaco Pastorius. We like to call him Stompin' Joe-- if you see us live, you'll know why.
*Keli Swearingen* (the drummer) calls Danny Carey of Tool her Yoda, but she's also a fan of Matt Chamberlain (Soundgarden), Buddy Rich, and 2Pac. She has played in concert bands, marching bands, and jazz bands, but she's a rocker at heart. Yes, a girl drummer.
