The Average

The Average

BandRockPop

A soulful rock trio that will get you singing along to their catchy lyrics, bobbing your head to the melodic basslines and shaking a leg to the punkified drumbeat.

Biography

This trio started off as your average band, guitarist meets drummer at work and the jam sessions began. After a few days of playing in drummer Alonso's basement, it was apparent they would need a bass player to complete the band. Matt then convinced his long-time friend, Lane, to dust off the old bass he had and learn to play. It didn’t take long for the three musicians to click and pretty soon, songs just started to come together during their jam sessions. It was then they started booking shows and shortly after began headlining shows. Now with their recently released EP, out in March of 08' and amazing sales of it online and at show, The band embarked a summer tour. After rave reviews and accepting an offer from Arcade Records. The band has gone into the studio to record a full length album which is due to be released late 09' to again, go out and tour and get the name The Average out to the world. There's no denying that this band is anything but average.

Lyrics

Sweet Mary

Written By: Matt Grimshaw

Get out of bed every morning, every morning, it's a brand new day, actually it's really quite boring, until Mary comes my, Mary comes my way

Oh sweet Mary why don't you, oh won't you take a break with me, the clock it reads 4-2-0, we've gotta get permission please, permission please

Not sure what it is you do all day, but I'm sure you do it well, when my life's problems come out to play, you send them straight to hell yeah, straight to hell

Oh sweet Mary why don't you, oh won't you take a break with me, the clock it reads 4-2-0, we've gotta get permission please, permission please, permission please, we've got to get permission please

Happy Again

Written By: Matt Grimshaw

I think I finally found a reason, a reason to trust, a reason to be happy again

When everyday is a brand new season, with every change I'm never to be happy again

But now I'm through just plain accepting it, don't wanna lose it, I'll never leave it again

Not gonna let my fate trick me this time, so damn sick of it 1-2-3-4

When something new comes to believe in, I keep telling myself I'm going to be happy again

Something comes and brings defeat in, then it sinks in, I'm never to be happy again

Then it goes just like it did before, already lost, I'll never receive it again

A glimmer in the dark, my glory fades, every bit of it, 1-2-3-4

So I sing this song again, with every breath I can change perception to change what you think of me

But now your stare is haunting me, I stand undaunting, to change direction, to change where I'm going to be

Because it's gonna be soon, I said it's gotta be soon, because it's closing on noon, and then my time's up

Gonna be soon, I said it's gotta be soon, or else I'll sing a new tune, and then I'll give up

Gonna be soon, I said it's gotta be soon...

I think I finally found a reason, a reason to trust, a reason to be happy again.

Things That We Agree On

Written By: Lane O'Berry, Matt Grimshaw

These are the things that we agree on, the things that you will side with me on, we tried to find ourselves a better way, but end up sleeping with a demon

They are the ones who pour the tonic, they hope that you don't choke upon it and when the bitterness is all you taste, you'll be too dazed to live without it

We're trying to forget about the things we've done, they keep saying our hearts will heal with time

These are the things that we believe in, that maybe things should be more even and if a time may come to choose up sides, they may be charging me with treason

Inject their minds with mass confusion, distract their eyes with mass illusion and we may never know what truly hides, inspect the lies that they've been using

We're trying to forget about the things we've done, they keep saying our hearts will heal with time

Waiting on the day when we will leave it all behind, living without it deep inside

Waiting on the day when we will leave it all behind, living without it deep inside

Waiting on the day when we will leave it all behind, living without it deep inside

Summer Days

Written By: Matt Grimshaw, Lane O'Berry

I remember the time it seems so far away, somehow I reached today, but now that it's raining all the time, I need you here, I thought I'd have you by my side

When the morning would break we'd meet out by the gate, and I could hardly wait, to race and embrace what the day brings, with me and you I knew we'd take on anything

Back then we were one, we were always having fun and I was on the run, stopping only to rest beneath a tree, to break and breathe and shield us from the noon day sun

But then tonight I watched the sun going down and the colors of the clouds reminding me of summer days, we use to play away, there was no give and take

But now the sun's behind the hills again and where are you my friend, while light is fading from the sky, just like the color of your eyes is fading from my mind

I remember the time it seemed like yesterday, somehow it slips away, remembering all the love we shared, but now you're gone you left me feeling lost and scared and now that I've got you on my mind again, no longer can pretend, that everything's gone you're here with me, I'll hold you dear, although your face I cannot see
