The Axes Of Evil

Started in the sweltering summer of 2006 by frontman Mike Dodd and guitarist JW Post, the Axes of Evil arose from the musical black hole plaguing Chemical City (a.k.a. Baton Rouge, LA). Dodd and Post immediately added guitarist John Leblanc to form a dual-edged lead guitar sound not heard (in the US at least) since heavy metal's heyday in the late 70's - early 80's. After a few years of kicking around south Louisiana's dive bar circuit and writing a tome of epic battlehymns, the Axes scored undoubtedly their holy grail lineup when bassist Matt Shuckrow and drummer Jake Fertitta replaced other members in late-2010 to early-2011. The songs mostly center on battles, wizards, history, Warhammer (i.e. anything cool) and have been likened to hearing the Scandinavian Prose Edda set to music of equally epic proportion. Maiden, Priest, Metallica, Blind Guardian, etc are the obvious influences, but every member listens to different metal sub-genres that definitely influence the overall sound of more recently-written songs. Along with the subject matter, intricate harmony guitar and dual-leads are constant elements to the music. With swords (literally) in hand, the Axes always stand ready to conquer the metal world!
