"The Bakers, Pat McCurdy, Thornbirds to play UW Oshkosh annual farewell bash"

(excerpt)...…The Bakers are all energy posing for pictures. Despite the lack of a crowd or full stage to move around on, chemistry and charisma weren't lost during the photo shoot.

Off-stage 'they're the first to make jokes, but when it comes to the magic of the music and where the band is headed, the foursome are dead serious. Here, bassist
Andrew Zimmerman talks with Weekend about playing Bye Gosh Fest, their unified sound and breaking onto the big scene.

WKD: What kinds of bands are out there right now that you guys are into? National or local, or both.

AZ: As far as the local level, obviously people have heard- of Verona. Grove. They recently got signed, and they were all students from UWO. They're definitely an up-and-coming band; they have one of-the best opportunities any band from the area has had. They're going to be on the Warped Tour this summer.

As far as national bands we really listen to, Kings of Leon, The Strokes. They keep the vintage guitar sound and amps, and we try to incorporate that into our band.

WKD: For those who've never seen you play, how would you describe a live show?

AZ: I would say, our shows are very, very tight. We do the best we can do to play as tight together as we can, and what I mean by that is just playing flawless. One of the best things we do is, you'll never find a show that's the same. We, leave a lot of open parts to a song so we can kind of go off and do lots of soloing ... It's always changing, but it's very together. The musicianship is very strong.

WKD: You guys seemed like you had a lot of fun at the photo shoot, but you're, more of a serious band?

AZ: As far as me music, we're obviously very
serious about doing what we can to be a band where people know us and get out of this area and hit a national level at some point. At the same time, it's a fun atmosphere among members in the band. You won't see a lot of goofing off while we're playing, but as soon as -we're done playing, we're the first guys, to tell you ajoke or drink a shot with you.
