The Barely Brothers Band

The Barely Brothers Band

BandR&BFunk

We are a jam band in the truest sense: no two songs and no two shows are ever the same. You can go to a show confident that it will be a completely unique experience. We play any and all styles, and our jams range from raging guitar solos to deep, exploratory group improvisations.

Biography

The Barely Brothers Band is a modern Jam band, mixing The Grateful Dead's Zen philosophies with Phish's stadium dance party sensibilities wrapped together with a smattering of modern electronic dance music. The band formed in 2010 to introduce some organic funkadelic soul into a culture where dub-step and Top 40 is king. The members draw from musical backgrounds ranging from modern jazz to southern rock to create a unique sound that constantly evolves and moves audiences.

The Band's founding members, Nick Swift, Sam Baskir and Ian Schenholm, met at Hampshire College during the fall of 2008. The band's first show was an intimate affair on the Guerrilla Stage of Hampshire College's 2010 Spring Jam. With the addition of Dan Peck on bass in 2011, the band began playing shows throughout New England.

Lyrics

Caronese

Written By: Ian Schenholm

I’ll walk amongst the trees
I’ll float upon the breeze
I’ll spend my days

In Caronese (x4)

I’ll never lose the track
Of thoughts as they attack
While I sit back

In Caronese (x4)

MT Blue

Written By: Sam Baskir

This morning I woke up
With an empty feeling inside
Nothing left to toke up
No friendly place to hide

Didn’t know what caused it
Didn’t know just what to do
No way to pause it
Didn’t help to play the fool

No solace in no tonic
No trust upon it
No guitar for to play my lick
Row of poisons take your pick

Tried to find a reason
Lord I tried to find a rhyme
Couldn’t blame the season
Lord I couldn’t blame the time

What am I missing?
Well now, what’s left unsaid?
Where should I listen?
What’d I leave for dead?

No solace in no tonic
No trust upon it
No guitar for to play my lick
Row of poisons take your pick

Couldn’t find no answer
No, I couldn’t find no cure
Another sideways glancer
Ain’t nothing for sure

Well I woke up this morning
With an empty feeling inside
Didn’t have no warning
Had no one on my side

No solace in no tonic
No trust upon it
No guitar for to play my lick
Row of poisons take your pick

Roller Coaster

Written By: Nick Swift

I can't seem to figure out
Why I'm always on this ride
The line is too damn long
Too many ropes along the sides
And I wanna know why
Everything I try always seems to turn out wrong

In solitude I found your kiss
Like a phantom in the air
Lines were drawn and friendships faltered
Seems like this cross is mine to bear
And I wanna know why
Everything I try always seems to turn out wrong

And the sign says
You must be this high
To ride this roller coaster
And the sign says
You much be this high
To ride this roller coaster
And I wanna know why
Everything I try always seems to turn out wrong

The forces of nature couldn't handle
The strain of your (curious) demands
For once I have satisfied every request
You're held in another one's hands
And I wanna know why
Everything I try always seems to turn out wrong

And the sign says
You must be this high
To ride this roller coaster
And the sign says
You much be this high
To ride this roller coaster

I can't seem to figure out
Why I'm always on this ride
