The BASEMENT is a diverse mix of musicians from genres ranging from gospel to classical. We play everything from Neo Soul and Jazz to Hip Hop and R&B.

Biography

The BASEMENT is a newly formed band in the D.C. Metro area, consisting of students from the world reknowned Howard University Jazz Ensemble. Instrumentation of the band includes piano, bass, drums, guitar, sax, trombones, and vocals.
From Ft. Worth, Texas, Milton Taylor pace has been playing piano for 8 years. During this time Taylor has been awarded numerous awards including: Bronze Medal in the 2000 National ACT-SO Convention and member of the first HBCU All-Star Jazz Band in 2001.
Corey Gault is from Manassas, Virginia and is a student at Howard University.He has been playing bass for 15 years, and is the Minister of Music at Providence Baptist Church in is home town.
Jason Holt has been playing drums around the D.C. area since he was 9 years old. Jason has played for many artist ranging from gospel superstar John P. Kee to Yahzarah, and he just recently finished touring with up and coming artist Ayana.
Todd Gault, is from Manassas, Virginia and has played with such gospel greats as Beverly Crawford among others.
Brandon Lewis, is an outstanding saxophonist from Buffalo, New York. Brandon has been playing for 13 years and is also a student at Howard University.In 1999 and 2000 National ACT-SO finalist.
Kenny Gill is Detroit Michigan and has been playing trombone for 10 years. Kenny has recently been accepted to Kent State to pursue his M.A..
Nicholas Gant is an amazing vocalist from Phoenix, Arizona, and is considered the top vocalist on Howard University's campus, performing in such diverse venues as Concert Halls and Jazz Clubs.
Muhsinah Abdul Karim is from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she is currently playing keyboards and singing background in the stage play "Acoustic Chocolate" written and directed by Malik Yoba.
Kevin Owens, of Atlanta, Geogia is an outstanding vocalist who has also performed with well known artist like Tedd and Sheri and A-1 Swift.
Since being formed in October of 2003, The BASEMENT has performed alongside such artist as Yahzarah, Janguar Wright, and Mums a poet and actor on H.B.O.'s dramatic series OZ, who we also performed with on XM Radio. The band competed in the Emergenza international Band competition in March. The BASEMENT also performs on Howard University's campus for number of student functions including:house band for Wednesday Night Live Youth Rally, One Night Stand Open Mic Talent Showcase, Homecoming's Coronation Ball, and Bison Ball to name a few.
