Bio

Inspired by Chilean virtuoso bass artist Felipe
, The Bass Invaders are an eclectic group
of Saskatoon musicians drawn together through a shared enthusiasm for Felipe’s complex and
multi-layered sound of rock, jazz, and aboriginal Chilean Folk.
Felipe (The Bass Invaders Project) began his musical career independently. While touring
extensively throughout South America and Japan he was endorsed by such companies as
Dingwall Guitars® and Blade Guitars® from Switzerland, and was the only South American to
have been invited to join the exclusive professional association of bass players in Tokyo known
as the Bassment Party. Upon his arrival in Saskatoon, Felipe immediately established a huge
following in the local music scene, wowing audiences with his innovative sound and
commanding stage presence. In 2011 he took to the stage unaccompanied at the Ness Creek
Festival, effortlessly creating the full, layered sound of a band on his 6 stringed bass. Realizing,
however, that the complexity of his songs demanded more musicians, Felipe sought out other
artists to fulfill this need. He soon invited percussionist Kyle Krysa (The Megan Lane Band,
Keepers of the Groove), and guitarist Ryan Unger (The Huxxtabulls, Mobadass) to join him, and
then completed their rich sound with two more additions: Anna Bekolay on electric violin and
vocals (The Drowned, Back of the Bus) and Gillian Snider on electric accordion and vocals
(Bassavoce, The Whiskey Jerks).
Now with bassist Felipe Gomez front and centre, The Bass Invaders are bringing their unique
and diversified musical vision to the stage, successfully creating a niche in Saskatoon’s music
scene like no other. Their versatility allows them to fulfill the potential of any stage offered
them, from the full expansive venue of the Sasktel Saskatchewan Jazz Festival, to the intimate
setting of the house concert, and all that falls in between - filling every venue to capacity and
increasing their fan base at every show.
With The Bass Invaders’ first album Suite Patagonia already in its 2nd print (having been sold
throughout Japan and South America) the band is excited about the completion of their latest
offering, available for purchase in the spring of 2013. The work is a conceptual album
beginning with The Bass Invaders’ first single “The Dance of the Fox ”.
