Veering from the beaten path of predictable genres, seasoned multi-instrumentalist Greg Ellis (Mickey Hart, Billy Idol, Beck) created The Battery Project from a deep longing for the legendary driving Zeppelinesque rhythms that first seduced him into rock and roll. Determined to connect his signature trance inducing percussion from VAS with his infectious drum set grooves as part of psytrance act Juno Reactor, he utilizes what he calls the O.R.E. (Organic Rhythm Experience) process of building songs around unedited drum tracks recorded in one take.

His ethereal melodies evoke the psychedelic lure of a timeless California that blurs the infamous sound barrier between San Francisco and L.A, seamlessly uniting them. Inspired by his session work on films like "The Matrix" (Revolution and Reloaded), "Dawn of the Dead", "The Devil’s Rejects" and Warner Bros. upcoming film adaptation of Frank Miller's graphic novel "300", Ellis conceives a supernatural ambient rock sound that conjures up the pioneering instrumental sojourns and sonic explorations of early Pink Floyd, Brand X, Gong and Radiohead.

The Battery Project’s name comes from Ellis’ conviction that music originating from uninterrupted rhythm is an unequaled power source capable of generating the mythic energy needed to reclaim our true place within the fabric of nature. When Ellis' ritualistic soaring music brings together musical tribes from Deadheads to Ravers to Rockers to PsyTrance fans, they embark on ecstatic whirling trance inducing flights that push beyond frontiers of spacetime.

While The Battery Project is Ellis’ brainchild, with him playing most of the instruments on the album himself, live shows will consist of a revolving roster of diverse musicians such as film composer/guitarist Tyler Bates, guitarist Steve Stevens, cellist Cameron Stone and Juno Reactor’s M’abi Thobejane on percussion.
