Bio

The BC Trees play hip hop with simple, cold beats from the band that highlight lyricist Matt’s socially-concious flow. Their groove-heavy, funky music is inspired by rap’s golden era, especially Tupac, the Wu-tang Clan, Nas, and early Outkast. The Trees play the Backstage Lounge, the Railway Club, the Anza Club, Nyala restaurant, and the Modern, and share the stage with groups from any genre of music. The Trees have played two Commercial Drive Car-Free Vancouver days, and the videos from both shows can be seen on youtube, featuring former drummers Pher and Marek. Brothers Matt (vocals) and Eddie (bass) began making hip hop in Boundary Bay while still in high school under the name Private Eyes. They met Ted (guitar) onstage at the Backstage Lounge way back in 2006 after original drummer Jeff invited him to join their set. The 2010 Trees feature Matt Van Slyke on drums and Madhu Bagga on vocals. The Trees are currently finishing their debut album of 12 original tracks, recorded by Chad Hillard of Hillydilly.com. Members of The Trees can often be heard at the Anza Club’s Thursday open-mic night, the best weekly night for music (especially hip hop) in Vancouver.
