Bio

Singer/songwriter Colleen Lee writes songs of whiskey, graves, robbery and lost love. With her new band, The Beebs, we see more of her surreal storytelling as she combines forces with musician/composer/producer Patrick Lee.

The Beebs met in August 2002 when Patrick’s four-piece experimental jazz
group played an opening slot for the soul band fronted by Colleen. They shared a flask backstage and, in the following months, their favorite music with each other.

Patrick Lee has led bands that have shared the stage with Soulive, Moby, Rose Hill Drive, Rebirth Brass Band, Black Uhuru, De La Soul and Derek Trucks Band. As a producer he has released over fifteen albums and has composed music for Rokenbok Toy Company, the University of Colorado, and the Snowmass Center for the Arts.

Colleen Lee is a trained vocalist who has performed and toured nationally with a number of Colorado bands, including Ordinary K, Daddy Stovepipe and Analog Quartet. She has shared the stage with Rahzel, DJ Logic, Soulive, Blackalicious and Maktub before returning to her country roots and founding The Beebs.

The Beebs’ debut album, Bird, features warm, acoustic instrumentalism and multi-part harmonies along with a number of diverse instruments (chromatic harmonica, vintage Casio children’s keyboard and a small wind organ purchased at the local Goodwill.) In a nutshell, Bird, is experimental folk rock.

“ I’d been obsessed with hip-hop and funk and then all of the sudden found myself making folk music. It’s a great new world because we’d come to this genre honestly. Working with Colleen is amazing.” – Patrick Lee

“I finally get to make the music I want to make. I’m writing the songs and feel like I’ve found the voice and genre that comes naturally to me. My past involvement with soul and theatre are still around, but I’m a folk country girl at heart.” – Colleen Lee

The Beebs’ debut album is to be released this summer and they are currently planning a fall tour in support.
