"Kim Jade Fry Consummate Front Woman"

Kim Jade Fry is the consummate front woman, her lead vocals strutting through songs with attitude and power. In addition, she provides part of the rhythmic foundation on the bass guitar, adding some serious flavor to the song with each slap and pick of her weapon of choice, Kim’s vocals move from a quiet simmer to a raging blaze. Her performance is absolutely fierce: defiant and direct, emotional and moving. Her presence looms large over this band and The Good Thing simply wouldn't be the same without her. - Jason Randall Smith, ImposeMagazine.com

"The Good Thing's Soul Revival"

Kim Jade Fry’s vocal has an assertive, Mavis Staples quality to it. In fact, the track “Ain’t Nobody Gonna Stop Me” has a familiar, Staple Singers feel, and would have fit right in with other soul anthems of the 60s and 70s. The current retro soul revival is so welcome, and The Good Thing fits right into this retro wave of music. It’s clear these musicians have done their homework and know their sources of inspiration very well.

""Get Funky" EP Review"

The Good Thing are hardly the only funk-rockers who have a major 1970s obsession; there are many others out there... "Get Funky" demonstrates that The Good Thing are among the better ones. "Get Funky" is a pleasing effort from these Washington, DC residents, And when [Kim Jade] Fry is belting away on “Nothin’ But Time” or “Ain’t Nobody Gonna Stop Me,” it is clear that she really appreciates the rugged, big-voiced approach of Chaka Khan [and]Tina Turner. - Alex Henderson, AllMusic.com

Bio

The nation's capital is home to some of the world’s thickest funk vibes, and The Good Thing has emerged from this local funk scene. The band is strongly influenced by funk legends James Brown, George Clinton and especially Bootsy Collins, who is band leader Kim Jade Fry's bass hero. Kim learned all about music while being raised by her jazz musician father, who also introduced her to the best rock, soul and blues.

In addition to the charismatic Kim Jade Fry on lead vocals and bass, The Good Thing relies heavily on the exceptional talent of DC guitar hero Charles Wright. An alumnus of the famed Duke Ellington School for the Arts, Charles is widely recognized for his virtuosity and versatility, from blazing solos to tight rhythmic licks on a variety of musical styles.

One of DC’s best pocket drummers, Paul Dudley, is another major part of the band. Paul’s vast experience ranges from funk, soul, jazz, gospel and hip-hop. The trio of Kim, Charles, and Paul is the backbone of the band that is complimented by a rotating horn section composed of some of DC's finest saxophone, trumpet and trombone players who each bring something special to the group.
