Bio
The Black Tories are the brainchild of Vancouver based singer/songwriter Joseph Delamar.
Conceived in the autumn of 2004 in a hotel room in New York City, Delamar formed the band on his return to Vancouver the following month and immediately took them into the studio to begin recording their first EP, Love Lies Bleeding.
Delamar is an alumnus of a number of notable Fraser Valley punk bands, including The Skeezix and Lothiar. Growing up he secretly listened to his musician father's collection of traditional folk, country and gospel albums, including Bob Dylan, Hank Williams and the Blind Boys of Alabama, while overdosing on Rancid, NOFX, and Nirvana.
The Fraser Valley where Delamar and the Black Tories grew up is located in Canada's bible belt, a working class, agricultural landscape.
The music is a reflection of small town Canadian alienation, religious fundamentalism and the ethos of punk rock that promotes tolerance amidst ignorance and acceptance amongst the disillusioned.
The next chapter of the black tories see joseph joining forces with ex-Guernica drummer Sam Spurgeon from Melbourne, and Sojourn band leader Jon Ferrel joins on bass.
The tories are currently on Tour in Australia
