Biography

Founded by legendary Indigenous artist Walangari Karntawarra and acclaimed Koori film-maker Troy j Russell, The Black Turtles fuse urban contemporary music with roots, reggae and a rockabilly edge, creating an "Indigibilly" sound which include influences by John Fogerty, Ry Cooder and Warumpi Band, making the Black Turtles the "Best little Indigenous Roots band around.

Finding its beginnings at the Eora Centre, College of Performing Arts in Redfern, Sydney, The Black Turtles have had a career spanning almost 2 decades.

During this time The Black Turtles have supported local community events, completed East Coast tours and have played most live venues in and around Sydney.

Performance highlights include the Dreaming Festival in Queensland and Peats’ Ridge Music Festival 2008 and 2010.

The Black Turtles have just released their debut self titled EP produced by acclaimed Australian Producer,Nick Mainsbridge.
