Bio

The Blonde Leading The Blonde is comprised of Dublin DJs, Alex Donald and Mo Kelly, who have been best friends for ten years. It seemed like a natural progression for the friends to become colleagues and start DJing as a duo. Making their debut at Dublin’s LadyFest Festival in 2004, they have gone on to electrify audiences around Ireland with their unique blend of breakbeat and electro.

Mo’s love of music started from an early age; her parent’s love of opera, her mother's piano playing and her older sibling’s record collection sparked a lifelong obsession with music. She secured her first DJ slot at the opening night of 3345 in Dublin, the only female DJ in the impressive line up which included Paul Hartnoll of Orbital. From that impressive debut, she has gone on to forge a career as one of Ireland's highest profile club DJs, regularly spinning at launches, art exhibitions and fashion shows. Having graced the decks of nearly every club in Ireland, Mo has also broken on an international level, with residencies in ZINC Dubai and gigs as diverse as ARTMOSH for Nixon in France, Full Moon Thailand, Speakerbox and 93 Feet East, London.

Mo has a special place in her heart for the Irish festivals she has played, most notably Electric Picnic, DEAF Festival, BudRising (where she supported Groove Armada), Oxygen, Heineken Green Energy, Glimmerball and Ladyfest. She can also be found rocking private/press/after parties most recently for the likes of U2, Kaiser Chiefs, MTV, TopShop, BT2, Grazia magazine, Sunday Times Style Magazine and iPhone, amongst many others. Mo has also been profiled in many Irish magazines and newspapers and is a well known face on the Irish media scene.

Alex grew up in the music industry as her father is legendary Irish saxophonist Keith Donald and her stepfather is Terry Woods of the Pogues. With heritage like this it was inevitable that Alex would go into the business too, and she started singing professionally at the age of thirteen, doing recording sessions and jingles.

Alex's DJing tastes lean towards electro and breaks. She has played at many Irish venues and festivals including a support to Meat Katie at the Temple Bar Music Centre, Trinity Rooms in Limerick, Spy in Dublin, Life Festival 2007 in Galway and DEAF Festival 2007 in Dublin. Alex also lived in London for two years and whilst there built up an impressive list of gigs including “Kill All Hippies” at Scala, Notting Hill Carnival, “Slipped Disco” at Bar Music Hall, “Train” at Market Place and a support slot to the Freestylers at The Old Queen’s Head. Alex also played at Zinc nightclub in Dubai in 2006.

Alex also plays at launches and instore gigs and recent clients include The Irish Times, Genius clothing, Lipsy and Monster Truck Gallery. Since 2006 Alex has co-hosted a radio show on Vertex FM, an internet radio station based in London. The show, called “None More Black” was co-hosted with Adam Barry and archived mixes are available on Vertex.fm to stream.

Now that they’re back together in the same country, The Blonde Leading The Blonde are ready to take on the world! With gigs lined up in India and at festivals in summer 2008, the girls are ready to rock audiences with their distinctive sound.
