Bio

The Band
Casey, Laura, Tyler, and Ishi are The Bloodroots Barter. Born out of dry county-winter doldrums in their Southeastern Kentucky home of Hyden, the foursome spent the last year and a half concocting their unique “voodoo grass” sound. They play mostly original music (with collaboration from all members) with a high energy and extremely visual performance. Artists like Tom Waits, Devil Makes Three, Michael Hurley, Neko Case, Bobby Osborne, and John Fahey influence them.

Recent History
Since the band was coolly formed in February 2010 (already 2000+ fans), they have been happily, yet extremely busy. The quad recorded and produced their first album, CH3OH (9 tracks, 35 min.), in spring of 2010. They toured the West Coast in summer of 2010 in a Nissan Quest Minivan with a popup camper. Some folks they have shared a bill with are Taj Majal, Old Crow Medicine Show, Yonder Mtn. Stringband, Carolina Chocolate Drops, David Grisman, Railroad Earth, Larry Keel, and Two Gallants.

Current Activity
The Bloodroots Barter recorded/produced their second album released in May ‘11-- The Secret That’s Becoming (12 tracks, 54 min.) followed by an album release tour in their new VEGGIE OIL POWERED SCHOOL BUS in the NE and these festivals: Floyd Fest, Brewgrass Fest, Terrapin Hills Harvest Fest, and Whispering Beard Fest. You can see them live this spring in KY, OH, TN, NC, SC, VA, WV, NY and VT (full schedule at www.bloodrootsbarter.com).

More than Music
Adamant for a holistic view of a band, The Bloodroots Barter concentrates on visual art and dynamic performance while keeping an anti–genre attitude toward their music. Art and design needs are met through collaboration with artists met through their experience as well as doing a majority themselves. Living/traveling in a veggie oil school bus, they promote a conscientious approach to touring as well.
