Bio

First of all…The Blue Plate Specials are for real…and The Blue Plate Specials never lie.

All their songs are true stories.

Let's get that straight right now.

The Blue Plate Specials have been together for longer than even they can remember.

They were childhood friends who would cut school together and listen to records.

The Blue Plate Specials lived together in a band house, had shaggy haircuts, wore striped trousers and lady shirts, rode around the yard on minibikes and wrote songs like "Hey, Hey, We're the Blue Plate Specials" until one of the band members discovered a large jug in the basement that contained some kind of fermented beverage, and a stack of old 45 RPM records by the likes of  Muddy Waters, Magic Sam, T-Bone Walker, Wynonie Harris, Otis Redding, and Little Willie John; but they sound most like their favorite of them all... the largely-unknown, yet mythical, Nazareth Wilson, who only ever recorded 11 songs for the now-defunct Neckbone Records label. The Nazareth Wilson records were totally ruined and could not be played, but his songs came to Charlie in a series of dreams, and he continues to use them as his inspiration for the band's material.

Songs like "Goin' to Mississippi", "Lou'siana Stomp" ,"Cruisin' Past Bakersfield" and others not yet recorded, begin to chronicle the life of the great Nazareth Wilson.

This sent The Blue Plate Specials careening off in a new direction that landed them a steady gig as the house band at Jimmie Mack's Gin n' Juke in the Kensington Section of Philadelphia, where they were discovered by Quentin Jones of Lanark Records.

During September of 2014 The Blue Plate Specials sign a recording contract with Lanark Records and enter it’s studio to cut 11 new tracks which will be release on Lanark late fall 14. Look for it at the bands shows, or download it in early 2015 at all fine download sites.

The rest, my friends, is history.

Can you dig it?

We knew you could.
