Bio

Scott Bastow:
Scott Bastow started playing guitar at age 11. After seeing Glenn Campbell on TV. After playing in a mostly original rock band called "Rooster" in 1981 and then a heavy metal band in 1986 called "Arson", he quit playing guitar for about 10yrs to be a dad. The blues was always in his gut. finally starting a blues band with coworker (on bass) Matt Johnson. That's where the core of our band started. Heavily influenced by Stevie Ray Vaughan, Buddy Guy, Jimi Hendrix and Jimmie Vaughan, we began building the band we now know as The Blue Royals.

Matt Johnson:
Matt began playing bass in high school to keep his first band from having four guitar players. He played in various bands while at UCLA, and joined up with Scott in the fall of 2004. Since then he’s studied all types of blues bass styles, and is happy to be putting his music degree to use. Matt's clean and innovative bass lines really provide that solid bottom that any blues/rock band must have.

Lou Schmerber:
Lou took a lot of piano lessons as a kid but hated them. Later he started plunking on a piano in his home and things started sounding good enough to keep at it. Now in his second (or third) life he can feel some of that early training paying off. Keep in mind that Lou survived the late 60's and all of the 70's and all of the "distractions" that came with them. Actually that explains a lot.

Jeff Campbell:
Jeff comes to us from L.A. where he worked with a band called the Hell Hounds for three years and the comealeons, an accoustic/electric project for around five years. Before joining the Blue
Royals in 2006 he was percussion man for the Roseland Blues Band for 3 years. Jeff keeps the steady heartbeat and funky color.
