"APRA Song Summit"

"Easily one of the best singers I've ever worked with! This band has a future!" Tom Jackson, Live Music Producer, OnstageSuccess.com - Tom Jackson

"301 Studios"

“The Blue Ruins remind me of a better time in music, where a band could play a song from start to finish and convey a sense of soul in their performance” Tim Carr, Award Winning Producer - Tim Carr

"Summer Rhythm Festival"

The Blue Ruins, a father and daughter folk duo from Bega were welcomed by a crowd enjoying coffee and the sunshine under the Holy Cow tent on Sunday morning. Their laid-back attitude and witty one liners were a great start to a glorious day. - Faster Louder

"The Phoenix"

Hailing from Bega, father-daughter duo, The Blue Ruins were the feature band of the night. Showing off tracks from their yet to be released album, Allan and Kate winged their night, set list free. They played an array of old and new songs including, Fire Up, inspired by events that followed after a gig played at The Phoenix and title-track off their new album, Tin Pot Alley. Kate’s powerful voice filled the venue and kept heads turning to see the small performer tearing up her own stage. Whether she had guitar in hand or stood behind drums, she loved what she was playing and it came through in her entire performance. - Faster Louder

"National Folk Festival 2011"

Up and coming folk-rock-blues duo, The Blue Ruins, blew minds at this year’s festival. With their big vocals, intricate melodies and original tracks they filled each stage they walked upon. Kate and Allan Watts released their debut EP, Tin Pot Alley, just last month and thanks to their success over the weekend this has already sold out - Faster Louder

Bio

Bega is the birthplace of the paradox that is The Blue Ruins. A part of Australia renowned for its beauty and its paradoxes; rugged cliffs, sparse beaches, killer whales, hot summers, snow filled winters and kilometres of soul rejuvenating forest. The Blue Ruins is a band that encapsulates the contrasts and the anomalies of this land in their brutally honest but sugar coated alternative blues roots pop. A band that counterpoints bitter sweet melodies and lyrics against raw roots and blues guitar, melancholy against foot stomping rhythm and refreshing laughter against politics.

It has been a three year journey for the trio Kate, Aidan and Allan. From humble beginnings to almost permanently on the road performing, recording, touring, singing, surfing, loving, fighting and recording again. Picking up accolades along the way; such as nominations for Best Blues and Roots Artist, Best Singer Songwriter and Best Pop artist at the 2012 MusicOz Awards, to working alongside top musicians such as Lior, Josh Pyke and Lloyd Spiegel, to showcasing their work internationally at the International Folk Alliance Conference in Memphis as well as working with world renowned producer, Tim Carr  (Matt Corby/Kanye West).  2014 will continue with this busy upward trend kicking off with the Fans First Tour to celebrate the pre-release of Bleed.

The single, Bleed will be released on the 31st of March. Written during a dark and tumultuous time in singer songwriter Kates life, the single breathes pain and fury contrasted against driving guitar and rock rhythms. The black and white artwork stands as a visual display of the counter positions of heart wrenching emotions versus uplifting music and was co-created by photographer Marli Funston with designer Nikki Hall with the aim of representing this angry vulnerability.

Having raised the money for the album through touring, hard work and Pledge Music, the band will make the album available to their fans first.  In complete contrast to musical peers who ride the wave of success and forget the ones who placed them on the ladder of success, The Blue Ruins are rewarding and embracing their fans. Says singer Kate, Our fans are who keep us on the road, who keep our spirits up and allow us this freedom of artistic expression. Without our fans, we have nothing, so nothing is more important to us than making sure they are rewarded first. This is the Fans First Tour the tour where our fans get to hear the songs first, download the singles first, get the merch first and get the CDs first. We never want to be one of those bands that are too busy for their fans. We want to say thanks for the support so far and hand-deliver our latest creation directly into the hands of the people who made it possible.

In a scene where the phrase 'roots music' is used so often, The Blue Ruins stand out as one of the few that truly understand its origins in the blues and pay it great respect while bringing it new flavour. Lloyd Spiegel
