Bio

Formed in 1993, the Blues Hounds brought together a group of childhood friends that played on the New York bar and club scene until life took the members in different directions. Borrowing heavily on their hard rock and southern rock roots, the Blues Hounds are described by lead singer Dondi Gray as a “roadhouse rock band”.

Playing classic blues and rock covers, from Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Eric Clapton, to Elmore James, Buddy Guy, and Robert Johnson, the Blues Hounds have always made each show an event worth talking about. Whether it’s Dondi standing on a bar, having a cocktail, while singing “Mustang Sally”, or some of the local party animals up on the stage playing air guitar to “Pride and Joy”, a good time is always had by all.

Through 14 years of moves, wives, children, and jobs, the Blues Hounds have managed to stay together, without any personnel changes. The gigs may now be fewer, but the energy and fun is still full blast.

In the summer of 2006, the opportunity arose for the members to come together and record some of their original music. The result is the CD “Take me Home”. Recorded at Big Mo studios in Beltsville, Maryland, the record contains songs from both the past and present. One song, Rebel Gun, was actually written and performed by an earlier band, Dead To Rights, several of whose members would come to form the Blues Hounds.

The title track “Take Me Home” has been their “signature” song and a staple of their live sets from the beginning. “Lonely Road” and “One More Shot” were written just for this project, and have become crowd favorites. “Saving All My Love (For You)”, the album closer, features Amy Davis on vocals. Sometimes the girl doesn’t come back. It is the blues, after all.

“Take Me Home” is a testament to friendship, loyalty, and just the ability of five people to put up with each other for so long. We fight like brothers, but that’s because we are brothers. It is especially a tribute to the music we love and the musicians who made it.
