"The Boat Lights at The Cavern"

Elsewhere, another Dallas act, the Boat Lights, goes through a lot of stylistic jumps, from quiet indie folk a la Wooden Wand to Arcade Fire full band drama to synth heavy instrumental pieces that seem to be influenced by the minimal soundscapes of Tangerine Dream, or possibly other influences that were themselves influenced by Tangerine Dream. Not bad for what it is. - We Shot J.R.

Bio

In Dallas, there's seldom much to do. It's too hot in the summer to do anything but stay in doors, and in the winter we're so used to the warmth that once it gets the slightest bit chilly we run for cover. Overexposure to indoors could be a dangerous thing, but when the two childhood friends Michael Bravata and Brian Towell found that they had a common interest in music, the result was incredible. Michael, an avid songwriter and Brian, a proficient drummer, forged in the furnace to create beautiful, atmospheric post-rock with touching melodies and overwhelming volume. With the help of other talented musicians, the sound has been masterfully layered into a texture that can only be described as enveloping. The Boat Lights is the musical outlet for two of the most passionate writers that have ever lived. The boys have been making music together for nearly 10 years and have now, nearing the completion of college, gotten a full grasp of each other's creativity. The youth in The Boat Lights shows that they're just experiencing their new life for the first time, which comes across with soaring magnitude through their music. This is just the early stages of the group and I just can't wait to see what turn the brothers will be making next.
