The Boneyard Brigade

The band started off as an idea in the early months of 2010. The front man, Joel Bonner (a freshman at KU), sought out drummer Rayyan Kamal (a junior at KU) and bass player Jon McClees (Free State High School). Early inspirations were bands like Captain Clegg and the Night Creatures and Rob Zombie, which started us off with a consistent "horror" theme in all of our songs, but we soon realized how novelty it was and have gravitated away from it, now writing about more relatable, personal topics, but keeping a somewhat dark motif in all of the writing. Our overall inspirations vary greatly from U2 to Mumford & Sons to Q-Tip and beyond. The guitar playing is driving and straightforward, but goes off into some intricacies in patches, while the bass keeps a moving groove throughout the entirety of songs. The drums give this band a shot of adrenaline, with their busy beats and complex fills, very jazz and groove inspired. Our high energy and overall "feel good" vibe are what we pride ourselves in.
