Bio

Singers, musicians, friends, and songwriters. That is what the Bonfire Poets are. Forged by years of collaboration, Mike Fedel and Mark Brokaw have combined their diverse talents to create a musical experience intended to entertain, comfort, challenge and perhaps even inspire their audiences. Drawing from an eclectic repertoire of folk, gospel, and popular genres, the Bonfire Poets will re-interpret the familiar and introduce lesser known gems through their intimate and upbeat acoustical performances.

Always thoughtful, sometimes witty, never vulgar, the Bonfire Poets can speak to audiences in a variety of settings, including coffee houses, community festivals, and church and family events, as well as the concert stage. The Bonfire Poets share their musical interpretations with their audience in mind, and weave stories of life’s loves, challenges, and joys through a musical journey all their own.

Mark Brokaw and Mike Fedel. A multi-instrumental duo known as the Bonfire Poets. Let us share the muse.

More Information on Mike Fedel

Mike Fedel is a performing musician, singer, and songwriter working in southeastern Michigan. While he has been known primarily for his work on lead guitar and vocals for California's Hali Hammer Band and several bands in Ann Arbor, Michigan, he has also established himself as a singer-songwriter in his own right. He performs primarily on acoustic and electric guitars.

In the Hali Hammer Band, Mr. Fedel worked with Hali Hammer and Robin Sturgeon, who had already established themselves in several bands in upstate New York and the San Francisco Bay Area. The group performed compositions by all three members and played regularly at clubs around the Bay Area. Their performances included regular appearances for Bread and Roses, the San Francisco Free Folk Festival, La Pena Cultural Center, People's Park and the nationally- reknowned Freight and Salvage. A high point for Mike was when he and Hali joined the chorus at the Nelson Mandela rally in the Oakland Coliseum in 1990.

Mr. Fedel's Michigan bands include Katie Geddes and the Usual Suspects (folk, country, and 70's popular songs), Living Water (contemporary Christian), the Evidence (Rhythm and Blues), a la Mode (supporting guitar for the jazz vocal quartet), and his own Mike Fedel and Band, a group that performs originals and favorites by the band members.

Mike's solo shows (with or without his Band) are known for the positive message and up-tempo music. A typical show may include a children's set, usually 20-30 minutes before the beginning of the 'main act', giving parents an opportunity for their children to have a night out and still get to bed on time.

Mr. Fedel also encourages audience participation. He is one of the regular songleaders at Ann Arbor's annual Christmas sing-along at the Michigan Theater. Mike regularly includes a segment in his show called the "Sing-along Jukebox", in which the audience votes for and sings their favorite songs. The songs range from traditional folk, show tunes, Paul Simon and the Beatles, to the Barenaked Ladies semi-rap tune "One Week".

Mr. Fedel has contributed to CDs recorded by Katie Geddes and the Usual Suspects, Dave Elder, Rich Coleman, and Lora Blanton.

While Mr. Fedel performs primarily on acoustic and electric guitar, mandolin and harmonica. He has also provided horn and string support (onYamaha keyboards) for several local civic performances, including Jesus Christ Superstar and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

Mike has been featured (both solo and supporting other musicians) at shows including Ann Arbor's Walk and Roll, the Gimme Shelter series in both Ann Arbor and Jackson, the Jackson SummerFest, Stockridge Summer Fair, Ferndale Art Fair, the San Francisco Free Folk Festival, the Human Awareness Institute's annual benefits, services at the Interfaith Round Table and the Interfaith Center for Spiritual Growth, GospelFest 2005.

More Information on Mark Brokaw

Mark Brokaw is a multi-instrumentalist singer-songwriter. Which, to you uninitiated, means he spends significant amounts of time digging through the Pandora’s box of his emotional tableau and, when he finds something that can be passed off as profound, tries to figure out if he can make it rhyme. As one can imagine, this is often accomplished to varying degrees of success. Thankfully, success is a relative term. Since he has been doing this since the Nixon administration, one must assume that he is as good as he is going to get, and therefore, he has reached some measure of proficiency. At any rate, all of you of a certain age can understand that endurance in the willingness to try is in itself a minor victory.

Mark plays guitar, and when he can’t find the thing, will play the mandolin. Failing that, he has a cool appellation dulc
