You might be asking yourself, who the heck are these cats? Basically, The BoomBap Cats are comprised of just two members, Johnny IllDigger on Production and Mr Slang, a.k.a. Mehdi Cee on Discussion. Though everyone who has ever supported the cause are in actuality BoomBap Cats themselves...
The Music that is sought is an original combination of various inspirations from 70's soul, funk rock and jazz with a golden era Hip Hop touch.. This sound is Boom Bap.
Although money is indeed an issue, it is not what drives these cats.
What drives these cats is the need to hear what has been lost, make what was forgotten and express what's on their minds...
Growing up in Montréal and surrounding areas, the Cats have had their share of experiences. Drugs, Alcohol, Street Gangs, poverty, dysfunctional families and violence are all part of the Urban life, and the Boom has been through it all...
Even though things looked bleak, "Step in the Alley", the BoomBap Cats' debut, is finally pressed and out in the streets in January 2008.
It is a ride through time that people often label as "OldSchool" but with a 2008 taste. Story Telling, messages, morals, values as well as that gritty street flavour make for an unusual album for 2008, but in the Cats' opinion, a much needed one.
The BoomBap Cats want to say something, and hope that the people will listen because for too long Hip Hop has said nothing and alot of people have stopped listening...
