We're fresh to def...exciting & new, yet familiar. Bridging the gap between hip-hop, soul, reggae, & rock...with a lil' blues & southern comfort thrown in for good measure. Quite simply, we're the illest band you've never heard of...yet.

Biography

Hailing from Dallas by way of Fort Worth, El Paso, & Houston, The Boss Level is a Soul-Rock band that blends numerous musical genres into a sound all their own. Created in late 2008, The Boss Level is a band that consists of the remaining members of college-jam-rock outfit FTL. Upon FTL's dissolution in April of 2008, Daniel Hardaway, Josh Vandenburg, Paul Garza, & Evan Gentry set out to create their own distinctive sound that would not only separate them from their previous band, but every other band as well. Adding good friend & multi-instrumentalist talent Justin Barbee in 2010, The Boss Level has been firing on all cylinders as of late with performances @ Lolapalooza in Fort Worth & the House of Blues in Houston opening for national artist Scott McCurry & the Mercenaries.
By incorporating heavy funk grooves with traditional riff-based rock, The Boss Level found its sound within those constructs yet longed to take it even further. They succeeded in doing so by exploring transitions in musical arrangements to allow for hip-hop breaks, rap verses, horn section shout choruses, electronica elements, and so much more giving their audience a taste of all the inspirations that provide The Boss Level with the mojo to make mo' music.
At any given performance or within any single original composition you can hear hints of Johnny "Guitar" Watson & Stevie Ray Vaughn fused with the likes of Jamiroquai & the Red Hot Chili Peppers. You may also find yourself hearing pieces of Lenny Kravitz or 311 likened with Cake or Stevie Wonder. Perhaps you may notice a hybrid of Bob Marley & The Beatles. There are countless combinations and muses, but The Boss Level is merely an amalgamation of the various artistic influences each member has within their musical conscious, focused sharply into a music with heavy groove & precise pop sensibilities, and it works.....WELL.

Lyrics

Paranoid Anthem (Razor's Edge)

Written By: Daniel J. Hardaway

Slippin' down the razor's edge.
Are you alive, or are you dead?
The answer's in the bitter pill.
Does it revive or does it kill?

They're gonna steal everything from you.
They're gonna keep you crawling.

You're ripping down the razor's edge,
when you hear the voices in your head.
Now you find it hard to feel.
When there's so many lies, nothing is real.

They're gonna steal everything from you.
They're gonna keep you falling.

You're slicing down the razor's edge,
but remember what the wise man said.
You're life is yours alone to lead.
Will you destroy or plant a seed?

They're gonna steal everything from you.
They're gonna keep you crawling.

Wrong Reasons

Written By: Daniel J. Hardaway

I got my Gloc 9 cocked, locked, & ready to go.
Because I can't take this anymore.
I pop 2 shots to let you know,
that I can't take, no I can't, take this anymore.
You always zig when I zag, & you rock when I roll,
but I can't, no I can't, take this anymore.
Because it's scratching @ the surface & I'm losing control.
Because I can't, no I can't, take this anymore.

I don't wanna be the understudy in your love song.
You're such a bad, bad girl for all the wrong reasons.
You're such a bad girl for all the wrong reasons, such a bad, bad girl.
I got my aim upon your heart & I'm trigger finger teasin'.
You're such a bad, bad girl for all the wrong reasons.
You're such a bad girl for all the wrong reasons, such a bad, bad girl.

You tell me what you need & what you're looking for,
but then you settle for less when I can give you more.
So I knock, knock, knock upon your door,
but then I wait on the outside while settle the score.

And I can wait outside your door,
for a hundred years or more.
What would that all be for?
What would that all be?
I got a bullet with your name on it.
I got a bullet with your name on it,
and it will shoot me straight to number one.
Then I'll be at peace, when it's all said & done.

You're such a bad, bad girl for all the wrong reasons.

Superficial

Written By: Daniel J. Hardaway

You don't know me, but I know you well.
With the twist in your hips, girl, it ain't hard to tell.
Sex is your weapon, & I reckon you use it well.
To get what you've got, since you're hot, it never fails.

Here you're a dime a dozen, & I'm on the run,
but I can't help falling victim to you women of the sun.

I thought you'd be more than a sight for sore eyes,
but now that I've gotten to know you it come as no surprise,
that it's not who you are, but who you know,
that gets your cold heart pumpin', frontin', puttin' on a show.

Here you're a dime a dozen, & I'm on the run,
but I can't help falling victim to you women of the sun.

I really must admit, I dig the voodoo that you do.
From the moment you entered, I began to send you glances from across the room.
To let you know I was feeling you, & you were feeling me too, at least so I presumed.
With the twinkle in your eye & the sparkle of your smile,
but I jumped to conclusions too soon.
Cause when I found the low down, it was plain to see
you were into my pockets more than me
And it evidently became evident to me that you & I would never be we.
Cause girl I move fast and free, like the breeze.
I guess I got a soul of a gypsy,
so you may make others fools for your love,
but I won't let you get me.

Here you're a dime a dozen, & I'm on the run,
but I can't help falling victim to you women of the sun.
