"FAMILY MATTERS"

There is something immensely rewarding about having the opportunity to hear a group of talented young musicians bringing their music to life.

It’s even more rewarding knowing that they all belong to the same family, and in this case, that family is THE BOSTOCKS.
Based on Queensland’s Gold Coast, Rob (lead guitar), Rachel (violin), Sara (bass guitar) and Brendan (drums) grew up around a strong musical environment and have never waived from their strong desire to achieve the high expectations they place upon themselves.
“Brendan and I always had an interest in music and Dad used to take us to a country music club once a month,” Rob recalls. “I was about five or six years old and I fondly remember having a strum on the guitar and Brendan having a hit on the drums at the end of the show.”
Little did they know these simple musical steps would lead to the opportunity to support International music icons such as INXS, JIMMY BARNES and Australian music legend STEVIE WRIGHT within the following few short years.
In 1998, The Bostocks headed to the Tamworth Country Music Festival for the very first time, an event that has become part of their touring schedule ever since. The winning of prestigious Golden Fiddle Awards has been an integral part of this Tamworth journey with the band gaining richly deserved recognition along the way.
This journey has now led to the release of The Bostock’s new album Not By A Long Shot, a collection of nine tracks that showcase this amazingly talented quartet, not only as fine musicians but as quality songwriters.
The title track and current single is the perfect introduction to the album and the quality of songs never subsides. “Not By A Long Shot was a line I had in my head along with the music and melody,” Rob explains. “Rachel then took it from there and our first single was born”.
superb vocals really from Sara and Rachel come to the fore in tracks such as Things Were Better and Done And Dusted while Morning’s First Wave blends all the group’s vocals beautifully.
To showcase their superb musicianship, this new album also includes two strong instrumental tracks, Old Boat and Run And Hide.
“The instrumental music is something we’ve come to love over the last 5 or 6 years. We really started delving into the instrumental stuff a few years ago, especially country instrumentals.” said Rob.
Returning to those early days, The Bostocks started touring at the tender ages of 9, 12, 13 and 15 and that very special musical bond between them is as strong as ever. A major stepping stone for the group came with several performances alongside guitar maestro PHIL EMMANUEL who inspired them to take their passion and musical ability all the way.
And so they did, playing to a crowd of thousands at the Stars Under The Stars Concert in New Zealand, the Gympie Muster, the Xstrata Mt Isa Rodeo and the Port Fairy Folk Festival where they were awarded the Maton Young Talent Award.
This new album is the culmination of years of hard work and sees The Bostocks ready to take their career to the next level and their music to an even greater audience. As word spreads there is no doubt this wonderfully talented quartet will receive the accolades they richly deserve.
It’s a long way from those early days of managing the responsibilities of school whilst touring the east coast of Australia (and sometimes not making it to school on Monday due to car trouble!). But like any worthwhile dream, these early steps along with dedication and obvious talent can lead to great success and that is what The Bostocks are set to experience in the years to come.
