Singer draws a breath and starts a new musical chapter

Article By Kathryn Dunmore of the Burlington Post - Backbeat

When popular Burlington band breathe. broke up, Mike Olivieri, singer/songwriter, took the opportunity to find his own voice and start a new chapter in his musical career with a project he calls The Breakup Letter. "The heart of breathe. was a full band sound with high volume," said Olivieri, former vocalist and guitarist for breathe., which consisted of Matt Trotter as bassist and Steve Tevyaw as drummer at the time of breakup. "I started writing my own songs near the end of breathe. I wanted to do acoustic for awhile and something more personal." Breathe. was well known for its loud and energetic live shows but, as The Breakup Letter, Olivieri strives for a more intimate approach. "I look at The Breakup Letter as a project, like a book I wanted to write. I only want to write this one book, not a series or even a trilogy," he said. "When breathe. broke up, it was an emotional stir and it pushed me into a different area. Performing acoustically has given me the opportunity to find myself and my writing style.

Bio

With songs such as “Blame it on Rock and Roll”, “The Stars” and “Dark and In Doubt”; The Breakup Letter is a high-energy acoustic drum rock band featuring Jeremy Knowles and Mike Olivieri. Collectively these two provide accelerating pop songs with echoing lyrics and foot tapping melodies. While Mike has toured North America promoting Breathe’s latest CD release produced by Sylvia Massey and Jeremy rests from Junior Achiever (featured on CTV’s Degrassi the Next Generation and Missing), The Breakup Letter is landing their first gigs opening for Canadian Legend David Wilcox, Universal recording artist The Marble Index and former Mix 99.9 songwriting contest winner Barlow. The Breakup Letter captures the feelings of a teenage love affair, a heart filled discontent with a series of compelling songs drawn from life’s triumphs and tragedies. Stay tuned for their up and coming debut release in the Spring of 2009. This is the best Breakup Letter you have ever experienced!
