Every Step of The Way

Written By: Jo Ellen Doering

BLUEGRASS CATEGORY
EVERY STEP OF THE WAY

1) I saw you stumble and fall, I saw you scratch your knees.
I heard you cryin’ “Mama, come and help me please”.
Standin’ on your own, you learned to walk that day;
But I was close behind you every step of the way.

CHORUS:
Every step of the way, (answer)Every step of the way
Every step of the way, (answer)Every step of the way
I was close behind you every step of the way.

2) Such a beautiful child, now you’re fully grown
Goin’ off to school, livin’ on your own.
You whispered “Dad I’m scared”, when you left that day
But I was close behind you every step of the way.

CHORUS:
Every step of the way, (answer)Every step of the way
Every step of the way, (answer)Every step of the way
I was close behind you every step of the way.

3) I saw you stumble and fall down upon your knees
Heard you cryin’ “Father” on Calvary.
“Why am I forsaken, this mournful day?”
But I was close behind you every step of the way.

CHORUS:
Every step of the way, (answer)Every step of the way
Every step of the way, (answer)Every step of the way
I was close behind you every step of the way.

Lonely Face

Written By: Jo Ellen Doering

COUNTRY CATEGORY
LONELY FACE
1) Lonely face, what stories your dark eyes tell,
Lonely face, I see through your smokey veil.
Lonely face, take me to that cool, dark, place;
Where you hide your lonely face.
2) Lonely face, such sad, sad eyes
Lonely face, I see the truth beneath your lies.
Lonely face, is there a trace left of you,
behind that lonely face?
BR: And your soft, full lips reach out for someone tender;
I've seen that look before, longing to surrender.
Unlock your heart, and throw away the key;
Lovely face, give your love to me.
REPEAT BRIDGE
3) Lonely face, come lay down by my side,
Lonely face, with me, you don't need to hide.
Lonely face, let me fill your empty space
With another Lonely Face.

I Call Him Honey

Written By: Jo Ellen Doering

GENERAL CATEGORY
I CALL HIM HONEY
1) Sometimes I like coffee,
Sometimes I like tea,
He don’t like either, but that’s OK with me.
REFRAIN:
I call him Honey, He calls me Sweetie Pie.

2) He likes his dinner for breakfast,
I don’t eat until three;
He likes meat and potatoes’, it’s fries and fish for me.
REFRAIN
I call him Honey, He calls me Sweetie Pie.

1st BRIDGE:
Just the right amount of tension and a whole lot of love,
Keeps us comin’ back for more.
We give a little here, we take a little there,
Ain’t nobody keepin’ score.

3) He reads the morning news,
While I consult the Stars,
He’s talking on the phone and I’m talking to Jupiter and Mars!
REFRAIN
I call him Honey, He calls me Sweetie Pie.

2nd BRIDGE:
You know how they say that opposites attract, that fits us to a “T”.
The attraction is mutual, like Heaven and Earth,
That’s one time that we both agree.

4) Sometimes I’m feelin’ low,
And I could sure use a hug,
He knows the right thing to say, he’s knows the right place to rub,
That’s why I call him Honey, He calls me Sweetie Pie,
I call him Honey, He calls me Sweetie Pie.
I call him Honey, My Honey calls me Sweetie Pie.

Closer To The Throne

Written By: Jo Ellen Doering

GOSPEL CATEGORY
CLOSER TO THE THRONE

CHORUS:
I'm movin' closer to the throne,
I'm a-movin' closer to the throne.
REPEAT THREE MORE TIMES
Closer to the throne of God.

1) Now when Gabriel blows his horn, On that Judgement Day
We will be reborn, Ooh, on that Judgement Day
When all our strength's been tried, On that Judgement Day
Our arms will open wide, Ohh, on that Judgement Day
Then the Fiery Wings on High, On that Judgement Day
Will lift us up into the sky, Ooh, on that Judgement Day.
BRIDGE:
When the still waters flow by the mighty throne of God,
There the dead will rise up from their sleep.
And the twelve Rays of Glory will light their way
Gabriels' trumpet will gather in his sheep.
And move us closer to the throne of God.
CHORUS:
I'm movin' closer to the throne,
I'm a-movin' closer to the throne.
REPEAT THREE MORE TIMES
Closer to the throne of God.

2) Now when Gabriel blows his horn, On that Judgement Day
We will be reborn, Ooh, on that Judgement Day
No more sin or slavery, On that Judgement Day
No more wealth or poverty, Ohh, on that Judgement Day
No more life or death for me, On that Judgement Day
Just Everlasting Eternity, Ooh, on that Judgement Day.
SECOND BRIDGE:
When the still waters flow by the mighty throne of God,
There the dead will rise up from their night
Gabriels' banner of Glory will guide their way
To the altar of the Seven Sacred Lights,
And move us closer to the throne of God.
CHORUS:
I'm movin' closer to the throne,
I'm a-movin' closer to the throne.
REPEAT THREE MORE TIMES
I'm movin' closer to the throne,
I'm a-movin' closer to the throne.
REPEAT THREE MORE TIMES
Closer to the throne of God.
Closer to the throne of God.

We're Finding Our Way

Written By: Jo Ellen Doering

GOSPEL CATEGORY
WE'RE FINDIN' OUR WAY BACK HOME

CHORUS:
We're findin' our way back home
We're findin' our way back home.
We'll see all our loved ones who've gone on before,
We're findin our way back home.

1) We've all had our troubles, our trials and doubts,
We've all had our times of despair.
But when our journey's over, finally the gates Will open up when we get there.

REPEAT CHORUS

2) Sometimes there are troubles we can't understand
And it seems like there's no one to care;
But the load will be lifted and the veil torn away
That day when we finally get there.

REPEAT CHORUS

3) We've all had our sorrows that cut us so deep
With a pain we hardly could bear;
But the Angels will greet us, across that bright shore
Hallelujah, when we all get there.

REPEAT CHORUS:

Hallelujah, we're on our way home.

It's Better To Have Loved

Written By: George Doering

BLUEGRASS CATEGORY
IT'S BETTER TO HAVE LOVED AND LOST
(THAN TO NEVER HAVE LOVED AT ALL)
INTRO REFRAIN:
It's better to have loved and lost, than to never have loved at all.

1) My brother he came back from war, for years he could not stand.
For the girl he'd loved thought him for dead and had married another man.
He prayed to God, "Lord, help me through, catch me before I fall."
But it's better to have loved and lost, than to never have loved at all.

2) The Whippoorwill around me flies, in the shade of a tall Oak tree.
On your tombstone I lay roses white, the pastor he speaks to me.
"Would you rather she had been less dear,
so the pain would be more small?"
It's better to have loved and lost, than to never have loved at all.

3) While we have the time, will we use it well,
before Jesus comes to call?
It's better to have loved and lost, than to never have loved at all
It's better to have loved and lost, than to never have loved at all.

Little Bitty Piece of God

Written By: Jo Ellen Doering

GOSPEL CATEGORY
LITTLE, BITTY PIECE OF GOD

1) Down inside, (answer) Deep down inside
There, where miracles abound,
There just waiting, (answer) there just waiting,
oh waiting to be found;
Straight from Heaven, (answer) straight from Heaven,
From that starry crown,
Is a little, bitty piece of God.

2) It's amazing, (answer) It's amazing,
All the treasures lying there;
And the joy, (answer) yes the joy, and the peace beyond compare;
All the answers, (answer) all the answers, to our every prayer
In that little, bitty piece of God.

BR : Like a Beacon in the night shining brightly from the shore,
It will guide us safely home. From the moment we leave Heaven
To our last day here on Earth,
We've got that little, bitty piece of God.

3) Oh happy day, (answer) oh happy day,
When we remember who we are.
And we've traveled, (answer) yes we've traveled,
Yes we've traveled oh, so far
On our journey, (answer) on our journey, just to find out that we're all
Just a little, bitty piece of God.

REPEAT BRIDGE

We've got that little, bitty piece of God.
Yes, we're all a little piece of God.

Water Into Wine

Written By: George Doering

GOSPEL CATEGORY
WATER INTO WINE

1) Matthew, Mark & Luke & John, went walking one fine day;
Takin' a break from writing, they'd ran out of things to say.
They came upon an Apple tree and what do you think they saw?
A bird, a snake and a little mouse, all of them getting' along.
And they said,

CHORUS: Lord, we're sorry that we ever doubted you.
It's obvious to all of us, the miracles you do.
They're happenin' all around us, they happen all the time;
We'll trust in you and let you turn the water into wine.

2) Moses woke one morning, before the break of dawn;
He thought he saw a bush on fire, but maybe he was wrong.
He walked along the riverbank to get a better peek,
'Cause it would be the second one he'd seen in just one week.
And he said,

CHORUS: Lord I'm sorry that we ever doubted you.
It's obvious to all of us, the miracles you do.
They're happenin' all around us, they happen all the time;
We'll trust in you and let you turn the water into wine.

3) A friend was thrown in the lion's den for charges so absurd,
Like the famous Daniel, of whom you may have heard.
The people watched and wondered, "Would the lion take the bait?"
Luckily for him the lion was trying to lose some weight.
And he said,

REPEAT 2nd CHORUS:
REPEAT Last line.
