Bio
The
Broken Spokes are a four piece band hailing from a small town in northwest
South Dakota called Morristown. Also known as, “The BS” or “Spokes”, the band
has been continually growing in popularity throughout the Midwest since their
first show in the summer of 2010. The band members consist of Kyle Wells
(Vocals/Guitar), Melissa Nehl (Vocals/Bass Guitar), Jacob Johnson (Guitar), and
Kyle Maier (Drums). The Broken Spokes were formed in the summer of 2009 when
all four members, who were all already friends, decided to put their musical
talents together and play some live shows. Due to all members growing up on a
ranch, Country runs deep in their roots, but there is no ignoring that the
Spokes are a Country/Rock band. During live shows, fans can expect everything
ranging from old to new, from loud to louder, from Eric Church to 3Oh!3. One of
the most unique things about the band is they have both a male and a female
vocalist, which really makes their set list diverse. The Broken Spokes are
notorious for a high-energy live show whether playing on a headline stage or a
rundown bar, and they have done them all. As of 2016, they have played shows
covering South Dakota, North Dakota, Montana, and Wyoming. They have shared
stages with local and national acts consisting of Chancey Williams and the
Younger Brothers Band, JB and the Moonshine Band, and Joe Diffie. Besides
their career in live music, The Broken Spokes came out with a demo CD in the
winter of 2013, which includes some of the fan’s favorite covers and also four
original songs; “Superman”, “The River”, “Mr. Everything”, and “Border Town”.
Songs off their demo CD have even got radio play from stations in South and
North Dakota. The Broken Spokes will continue to connect with fans with live
shows, while continually working on new material of their own.
