"Jambando"

The Burnin Smyrnans immediately got crowd attention. Drummer Anthony Diaz said that "The people were really feeling it, and I feed off of that." The crowd was highly energetic during their set; one song in particular, "Revolution," set the crowd dancing and singing along. The energy was almost visible between the band members as they played, and their set can simply be described as electric. A drum solo, including competing bongo drums, also made the set especially powerful and memorable. Interestingly, the band has a fairly loyal following from their hometown, New Smyrna Beach. Not surprisingly, their closing song, N. S. B. was also a crowd favorite. - Zack mahone

when you see six hippie - looking guys on a stage with dread locks and barefeet you'd probably think you are in for a good time. Then you listen a little and it smacks you in the face that these guys are really good and they put on a highly entertaining show. They improv every night and bring a little soul from New Smyrna Beach Wherever they Go.

"Spotlight on the Burnin Smyrnans"

Seeing the Burnin’ Smyrnans at Fuel in Daytona Beach on Friday the thirteenth made the night a little less eerie considering the date and the full moon. A young band that doesn’t seem hell bent on conjuring up negativity for negativity’s sake is refreshing to hear these days. A good crowd gathered at Fuel, including many New Smyrnans who made the trip all the way to Daytona just to see the band. But the Smyrnans aren’t just ANY band: They release an upbeat feeling without fluff. Full of energy and loaded with talent, they look to the likes of the king of reggae Bob Marley and to Honolulu surfer/songwriter Jack Johnson for inspiration. They call themselves a reggae/jam band, and they do just that – they jam, jam, jam, and keep on jamming all night long. Don’t bother checking them out, though, if it’s cover songs you want to hear, because the Smyrnans are all about original music, and good original tunes seem to pour out of them as easily as rain pours out of the summer skies in Florida.

The Burnin’ Smyrnans already have a large following and are a must see, but only if excellent original music played by local musicians appeals to you. Check out their web site www.TheBurninSmyrnans.com.
