Bio

The trademarks of The Burns Sisters are their gorgeous familial harmonies, their infectious and joyous stage presence, and their concern and dedication to making a better world. Everyone loves the Burns Sisters!

The three sisters have been singing together all their lives. They come from a family of twelve children brought up Irish Catholic in upstate New York. Their mother, Teresa, who sang in the church choir, taught them and thus began a life of singing together. Their father, the late John Burns, had an impressive career in politics as Democratic State Chairman of New York state, Campaign Manager in NY State for Robert Kennedy’s Presidential race and Mayor of Binghamton, NY. Their family culture was, and still is, believing in standing up for the rights of all people.

They walk their talk and bring their beliefs into their music. Together they have released seven albums and they each have released solo CDs.

Their most recent CD, WILDFLOWER BOUQUET charted well on the Folk charts and the song "Bring Them Home" was nominated for SONG OF THE YEAR by the INTERNATIONAL FOLK ALLIANCE. They are currently working on music for their next CD.

They met Arlo Guthrie in 2004 at Woody Fest which led to an invitation to join Arlo's TRAIN TO NEW ORLEANS tour, post- Hurricane Katrina.

In 2009 Arlo asked them to hit the road with him again. They joined Arlo's LOST WORLD TOUR and they toured the USA and Canada for 8 months.

Since then they have been playing festival mainstages at FLORIDA FOLK FESTIVAL, WOODY FEST, and the MOAB FOLK FESTIVAL. They are versatile festival performers and give harmony and song structure workshops. They are always willing to add back-up harmonies for other acts.

This August they joined Arlo again for a very special appearance at BETHEL WOODS for the WOODSTOCK ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION. They played with the BOSTON POPS ESPLANADE ORCHESTRA at site of the original festival.

They have played with a symphony before, The BINGHAMTON PHILHARMONIC and have had several of their songs scored. They would welcome the opportunity to play with more orchestras.

They perform a very popular holiday program presenting a heartfelt blend of both original and traditional holiday music.

Arlo enjoyed touring with the ladies so much that he has invited them back. They will be on the road again from June 2010 through May 2011. They are available in February 2011 while Arlo takes a break, and then from June 1 onwards.

They have been in the studio this fall and have a brand new project they hope to have out in early 2011. Additionally, they have added their voices and spirit to several of their friends' projects. So if you think you are hearing them, you probably are.

They are booking as a 5 piece band.
