"Reviewing the Neighbors: The Campaign"

Madison-based band The Campaign's self-titled EP is straight forward rock that satisfies this listener's ears yet leaves me wondering what else this band has to show.
Formed in 2010, The Campaign is quickly making an impression on the Madison music scene. With lead singer and guitarist Paul Mitch exchanging confident harmonies and guitar riffs with Danny Wedel (also on guitar), and David Burney's driving bassline matching comfortably with Joey Wedel's solidly energetic drumming, you wouldn't think this is a band that has been together for just over a year.
From the opening notes of “Pulling Punches,” it’s quite apparent The Campaign is here to make a statement. “Separate Ways” is an apathetic story set to a catchy tune; two cheating partners are left with only one reasonable solution, to simply “go our separate ways.” The careful blend of powerful electric and steady acoustic sounds is something The Campaign appears to do quite well on this record and is particularly noticeable in songs like “Witching Hour.” This ambitious band presents the listener with just a sneak preview of things to come through the music on their future projects.
Overall, this recording is well crafted and balanced with great energy. It possesses a certain pop feel that I think will attract a specific type of listener, and while building off the driving rock sound it will continue to gather others to their fanbase.
The Campaign's next local show is at the Frequency on June 17th, where it's probably safe to assume you will hear at least a few tracks from this latest release. - Dane 101

Bio

The Campaign was formed in Madison in February 2010 when Paul Mitch and Danny Wedel began playing acoustic gigs together around Madison. Soon after, Joey (Danny's twin brother) started playing along on cajon for the acoustic gigs. Rounding things out David Burney joined in on bass, and the band decided to start incorporating electrics. The Campaign still performs acoustic shows adding to the versatility of the group. Paul and Danny trade off on lead vocals, and Joey will often add backing vocals. In March of 2011, the band released an eponymous EP showing off the various styles the group incorporates into its sound.

With influences ranging from The Beatles and Led Zeppelin to Radiohead and the Raconteurs, this rock quartet is sure to impress.
