Biography

Charming....compelling....unsettling....astonishing....these are some of the many ways that fans of The Captain's Package have described the band's unforgettable live shows and highly acclaimed debut album. The band's distinctive sound can best be described as a rich combination of pop and eccentric rock, with the subtle influence of art and world music. Every fan takes something different from The Captain’s Package experience, with comparisons to similar artists as diverse as Nick Cave, The B52s, Talking Heads and Faith No More. Amongst the most striking features of the band are the inimitable vocal styles of singer/guitarist Matt Campbell and singer/keyboardist Arezo Khanjani, the driving rhythms of drummer Evan McGregor and the powerful riffs of bassist Matt Williams.

The Captain's Package was first formed as a three piece, but with the addition of Arezo in 2002, the lineup was complete. The band recorded their self titled debut album in 2004 with producer Evan McHugh, having previously worked with the likes of Grinspoon, The Superjesus and Midnight Oil. The album was released through 456 Records soon after to critical acclaim and overwhelming enthusiasm from fans across the country. The song ‘Cherry Pie’ received Triple J airplay, while ‘Rigor Mortis’ and ‘A Promise To Our Guest’ received widespread community airplay.

Challenging, astounding and undeniably unique, The Captain's Package is at the front of a new evolution of Australian music. In 2006, the band will be focusing on touring interstate and recording their highly anticipated second album. Check out their website www.thecaptainspackage.com for more info.
