"The Casanova Wave - Joy Of Being"

Joy of Being (Bluestack) ***

Brian McCartan is The Casanova Wave, a one-man Waterford band with a gift for alluring, gleeful electronic pop. But what’s interesting to note on Joy of Being is the manner in which McCartan makes room in the mix for a bevy of guests who lend the album additional nuances and angles. Wayne Fahy and Sorcha Brennan from Sleep Thieves give The Light a joyful, bumping swing that turns it into the kind of earworm that is always welcomed when it comes your way. On Play, for the Night Is Coming, the vocals of Katie Kim and Aisling Browne add sugar and spike to McCartan’s groove. But he’s just as good and impressive when he flies solo, with How the Beat Was Tempered, a strong, vibrant opening statement, and especially The Casanova Wave, a fine lesson in clear, sharp b(r)and identity. www.thecasanovawave.com

Bio

“Stuffed full of uplifting electronic pop” - State Magazine

Hailing from the seaside village of Tramore in Waterford, Ireland, The Casanova Wave is the creative outlet of Brian McCartan. Emerging as one of Ireland’s brightest electronic acts in the Autumn of 2010, the ‘shimmering, chiming electro--pop’ on his eponymous debut EP was described by Jim Carroll of The Irish Times as “leaving you wanting more”. It wasn’t long before Brian’s unique style of music and live performances began to enrapture audiences. His sound could be described as a happy--go--lucky mix of warm electronica complimented with live instrumentation and an array of looped sounds. In many respects his sound is a reflection of summer with melodies that burst with bouncing rhythms, bright guitars and pulsing synths.
Named as one of The Irish Times’ ‘Best Irish Acts of 2010’, Whelan’s ‘Ones to Watch 2011’ and State Magazine’s ‘Faces of 2011’, 2011 was indeed a breakout year for The Casanova Wave with barnstorming appearances at a number of Irish music festivals including Vantastival, Spraoi and Castlepalooza (the latter chose his track The Casanova Wave as their 2011 radio theme tune) and he has been busying himself in recent months penning his debut album which was released in July 2012.
