The Catillacs are a great party band- they've got a fun, rockabilly vibe... yet it doesn't just stop there. They are rounded out by thoughtful lyrics and tasteful musical arrangements too. They're also one of the most professional and courteous bands out there. I love the Catillacs! ---Lisa Mann

Hi, we’re the Catillacs. We’re an independent Americana band based in the tiny town of La Center Washington, and we just released our debut album “Meow Mix” on August 29th of this year. The band is a trio consisting of me, Richie Bean, (pretty well known as the lead guitarist and singer for the Portland blues bands Hudson Rocket and King Juju & The Beats, both have had airplay on blues themed Portland radio programs), drummer Susan Costa, (comes from a punk background, played with Portland bands Beyond Veronica, Harvey Girls and Serpentone), and bassist George Burton, who at 25 has already played with Portland heavies Jim Mesi, Steve Bradley, Jake Blair and a host of others.

We came together in the spring of 2007 with the intent of forming a rockabilly band, but soon realized that we were limiting ourselves trying to stick to one genre. “Meow Mix” is a collection of ten original songs and two covers. As the title suggests, it is a mixed bag including blues, country, folk-rock, rockabilly and ballads. The sound of the band has been described by various people as sounding like Neil Young (Love Bank), Chris Issak, (Deep Blue Sea), The Rolling Stones, (Queen of Denial), and even Garth Brooks! (Ain’t No Middle Ground). From the heartfelt country ballad “In the Fall” to the angry punk-blues cover of Robert Johnsons’ “Me and the Devil Blues” to the Halloweenish voodoobilly novelty “Hoodoo Laveaux”, we feel that there is something for anyone who’s a fan of electric American roots music on this record.

Ain't No Middle Ground

Written By: Richie Bean

Most of the time my life goes along as it should,
then I turn around and something's changing.
Sometimes it won't, when I wish that it would,
Sometimes life needs rearranging.
But I know it's crazy...
This mean old world keeps spinning 'round...
I took the good times, I'll take the bad ones...
seems like there ain't no middle ground.
Seems like there ain't no middle ground.

At night, when the fires of love burn bright, I dream of you.
In the day, when the sun chases fear away, I think of you.
Right now, I'm lying here wonderin' how I can be with you.
With you, you, you, lord I wanna be with you.

Now that I've lost you I realize how hard that it was to find you.
I lost a few friends and I met some dead ends on the way.
Then I made the mistake of my life when I went and I lost you.
A fact I'll regret 'till my dying day
And I know I miss you, these mean old tears keep falling down.
You don't know what I'd give to kiss you,
feels like there ain't no middle ground.
feels like there ain't no middle ground.

At night, when the fires of love burn bright I dream of you.
In the day, when the sun chases fear away I think of you.
Right now, I'm lying her wonderin' how I can be with you.
With you, you, you...Lord I wanna be with you.

Queen of Denial

Written By: Richie Bean

You got a hundred dollar party dress
You wear Channell 5
You smoke them imported cigarettes
You keep the party alive
You're solid gold on the outside,
You're black and blue within
I think that those are the true colors
of your skin.

You're walkin' 'round with your hand out
Thinkin' nobody knows.
And all those things you say to stand out,
are just meaningless prose.
You throw around your religion,
I'd give you ten-to-one odds...
You're only asking for more money,
When you're talkin' to God.

You never even tried to learn to be yourself.
You just follow the crowd, like everybody else.

You're braggin' 'bout the conversation
that you had was "so deep".
But you can't wait to tell the secrets...
That you just promised to keep.
Then when the finger is pointing,
you look 'em straight in the eye...
Little Queen of Denial
How you lie.

You lie in bed with strangers after just one dance...
But if they ain't made of money,
Then they never had a chance.
(solo)
You're going down to where the lights shine,
because you love that place.
You think you're gonna land a gold mine...
You and your beautiful face...
Little Queen of Denial, put your makeup on.
What are you gonna do for money,
when your looks have gone?

You never even tried to learn to be yourself,
You just follow the crowd, like everybody else.
You never even tried to learn to be yourself,
You just follow the crowd, like everybody else.

Boogaloo

Written By: Richie Bean

Boogaloo, Boogaloo...Baby what you gonna do?
Boogaloo, Boogaloo...Baby what you gonna do?
When I get the chance, love to watch my baby dance...
Boogaloo, Boogaloo

I got a little girl, she live's across the way,
She can dance the boogaloo all the night and day.
She's my baby, she's a fine little thing.
Tonight I'm gonna give her a diamond ring.
She's my steady, and lord she's pretty, Boogaloo...Boogaloo

Well she's five foot four, when she get out on the floor,
See the smoke comin' off of her shoe...
She's my little girl, she's my whole wide world,
and I call her Boogaloo...

(solo)

Yeah, she five foot four, when she gets out on the floor,
say "Baby what you tryin' to do?"
She's my little girl, she's my whole wide world,
and I call her Boogaloo...

Boogaloo, Boogaloo...
Baby what you gonna do?
Boogaloo, Boogaloo...
Baby what you gonna do?
Tonights my chance, gonna take her out to dance...
Boogaloo, Boogaloo.

In the Fall

Written By: Richie Bean

An old man sitting in a drugstore.
Drinking coffee, and talking about his life.
I sit and listen, 'cause I ain't nowhere else to go, and besides,
it's raining hard outside.
He said "I knew a woman once. When I was just a child.
I used to call her mother, sweet mother...
She left when I was only five."

And the world keeps spinnin' 'round...

Now I'm driving down an Oklahoma highway...
With nothing much to do.
So I'm thinking about the way the word "forever" applies to you...
'Cause that's how long we planned it for.
Looks like the plan fell through...
And the roads and highways all run together...
'Cause they're the only things that go on forever...

And the world keeps spinnin' 'round
And the children growing tall...
And the autumn leaves fall down...
In the Fall.

Now I'm sitting in this lonely old apartment...
You're always on my mind.
Yeah, I guess we had some good times, 'till you ran out of time...
I guess that's what I'm left here for...
To raise the kids and mind the store...
But soon I'll be with you once more, darling...
And love you like I did before...

And the world keeps spinnin' 'round
And the children growing tall...
And the autumn leaves fall down...
In the Fall.
And the world keeps spinnin' 'round
And the children growing tall...
And the autumn leaves fall down...
In the Fall.
