Bio

By infusing the elements of country, folk, funk and punk into our own brand of rock ‘n’ roll, the Chapman Swifts have a musical style that piques interest of all who listen. Tight, danceable grooves, guitar heroics and the styling of smooth, jazzy female vocals create songs that range from climactic and intense to mellow and soothing.

The Chapman Swifts formed in the winter 2004. No strangers to the Portland music scene, members having spent considerable time gigging in other local bands (Paper, Peace and Turbulence, Sekai Union, Free Range Humans). Once together, The Swifts immediately began crafting their unique style to unleash a fresh take on a backlog of material by prolific songwriters Art Hall and Josh Luker. Regular local gigs and persistent grassroots marketing have garnered an ever increasing fan base as evident by our constantly growing mailing list, website visits and show goers.

In Spring 2007, The Swifts recorded their first full length album at Portland’s own Jackpot! Studios with producer/engineer Jordan Richter (Sixpence None the Richer, The Legendary Shack Shakers). Release of the album later that year has been followed by encouraging sales at shows, online (CD Baby, iTunes, Digstation), and local record shops (Music Millennium, Everyday Music). 2008 brings a renewed vigor with many new songs in the works, shows regularly booked months in advance including trips out of town (Eugene, Seattle) and early planning for recording album #2.
