Celebrating their second year as a band, The Charter North have a lot to celebrate indeed. Fresh from the coveted Gallery of Carpet Studios in Chicago (the Hush Sound, the Academy Is…), the band has just wrapped up mixing and mastering with producer Brian Zieske.
Veterans to the indie rock scene, The Charter North have shared stages with: Planes Mistaken for Stars (No Idea Records), The Matches (Epitaph Records), Spitalfield (Victory Records), The Fold (Tooth N Nail Records), 1090 Club (Sidecho Records), The Forecast (Victory Records), Down to Earth Approach (Vagrant Records), Moros Eros (Victory Records), Scatter the Ashes (Epitaph Records), Scouts Honor (No Idea Records), Socratic (Drive Thru Records), Day at the Fair (Drive Thru Records), June (Victory Records), New London Fire (Eyeball Records), Voodoo Blue (DCide Records), as well as Fire When Ready (Art Injection Records), and many more. The Charter North looks forward to hitting the road again in support of their new full-length, simply titled: Chapters.
The Charter North has been a long time coming. Members of bands together in the past, bassist Nate Hawksworth, and singer Rob Applegate founded the group. Lead guitarist Chris Howard, and drummer Robert Temples rounded out the band, however, Temples quit shortly after their first tour. Quickly replaced by John Smithers (Hawksworth and Applegate’s former band-mate), the band was complete.
The new album, Chapters, chronicles an 18 month period in singer Applegate’s life. The album is sure to stand out from that of their peers, covering unique subject matter like; catching a lover red-handed with another man, a celebration of Applegate’s sister’s amazing life, the hardships of an independent business, as well as providing a look in the mirror for people unsure of where their life is going.
The Charter North weren’t alone in making the album, having called on Jared Grabb of Scouts Honor, and Shannon Burns of the Forecast. The longtime friends were more than happy to help with gang vocals on rocking tracks like “Proud”, “We Should Have Known”, and “Where Do You Want to Be”. Burns lends her voice again on the tender “Home”, while guest vocalist Carolyn Shima contributes the voice of the antagonist on the broken hearted “On Windshields”.
With Chapters on the horizon, The Charter North is a band to be reckoned with .
