"Rock Takes Flight At 80/35"

"Conrad Bascom of The Chatty Cathys leaps into fans at the conclusion of the band's set during the 80/35 Music Festival at Western Gateway Park in Des Moines on Saturday. The Chatty Cathys, who hail from Des Moines, kicked off the day with an active set, and frontman Bascom even stage-dived more than once." - Des Moines Register

"80/35 Day 1 Catch All Blog"

The Chatty Cathys kicked off the day with a really active set. Frontman Conrad Bascom even stage dived more than once. If you're on the main stage at a rock festival, you've got to take advantage of that.

Bio

The Chatty Cathys are about to release their debut full-length "Cradle Rock" on Our Lady of Guadalupe Records. The Chatty Cathys have a riotous live show and have been graced with the opportunity to perform alongside boom-bap bands such as: Titus Andronicus, The Poison Control Center, Okkervil River, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, of Montreal, Girl Talk, Handsome Furs, Santah, and Grace Potter, to name a few.

Conrad met Luke through his mom and pops when he was three years old. His mother’s womb was really the catalyst of their future collaboration. It turned out to be a beautiful, baby-boy of an accident!

Conrad and Luke versed and baptised themselves on The Beatles, The Beach Boys, The Bowling Stones, and the other notable Bs on cassette in their parent’s tar-black Mazda. Papa played them Ernest Ranglin and Tom Waits. Conrad wanted to play saxophone and thought Tom Waits was black until he later rediscovered him at 14. Luke could barely talk then and was preoccupied with his alter-ego Ethelbert.

They started making music with an ever-evolving line-up. Ever evolving selves, as well. What else can you do in America when you want to be everything?

So then they started to fuck shit up and were branded worthless youths.
