Poppy, melancholy, indie/alt rock for the young sophisticates.

Biography

Los Angeles based band, The Chromium Heart is the fully realized project of Chris Jacks, whose former work with the bands, Fly (signed to RCA )and Space Mtn., long list of credits as music composer on major motion pictures (with Dust Brothers Mike Simpson) and TV commercials (The Gap), and as guitarist side-man with comedian Sandra Bernhard, left his special brand of hooky, melancholic songs twiddling their thumbs away in the background. Finally, in 2010, The Chromium Heart releases its first full length CD, titled simply, "The Chromium Heart." A brilliant songwriter and widely respected guitarist in the LA community, one should not be surprised that the album is damn good. What is surprising is that as listeners we are enchanted and entertained from start to finish by Jacks' charm and candor. The songs alone are pieces that alternate between riff driven, humorous and hooky numbers that seem like instant hits, like "True Believer" and "Bricks", to the more melancholic and indulgent pieces that Jacks lets us wander into, like "Pure Life" and Dragged Down and Out." Sonically, the album is a lush landscape planted with a myriad of interesting and original sounds like understated and well constructed guitars along with unusual effects, like vocals sung through the sound hole of a guitar, the use of toy instruments, and other recording techniques that frustrated engineers working with the artist, but delights us as listeners.
