Bio
With a nonstop extensive tour schedule since June 2011 that has taken them throughout Alberta, British Columbia and Saskatchewan, The Coal Creek Boys are working their way into a permanent slot in the Canadian music scene the old fashioned way, by putting blisters on their hands. They are booked well into 2013, including slots in some of Canada’s major venues and festivals, Calgary Folk Festival 2013 being among one of them. The band is steadily gaining popularity, on both commercial, and non-commercial radio, with highlights on top 40 radio, and a CKUA, CKXU, Sun Country FM 99.7, and CBC radio. And extensive radio airplay on more than half a dozen US radio stations, bulking an impressive American following.
Singer / songwriter, and front man, Johnpaul Smith, alongside multi-instrumentalist, Dino Scavo, have based The Coal Creek Boys music and successes around a tremendous amount of hard work and endless dedication. They released The Coal Creek Boys debut album 'Hard at it in Old Town' in February of 2012. They have since gained a large fan base in the southern United States, Canada, and Mexico of all places. With a promising upswing of strong sales from both online and at live performances, roughly 90% of hard copy album sales are mailed to the United States weekly. ITunes is also still standing strong in single downloads.
Songs like Old No.7 and Snow are still selling strongly in North America. The songs are even tabbed out on more than a few different guitar tab websites. In addition, they have been approached with offers to feature their music on international TV show soundtracks. It’s quite safe to say that the boys have made their mark in the past year! As of January 2013, the boys hit 11000+ online sales in Canada and 9000+ online sales in the United States.
May 1st, 2013 saw the release of their follow up album, Rose town, a double album split into two discs. ‘Whiskey’ contains the higher energy songs whereas ‘Wine’ is a disc of ballads. Rose town is a highly versatile album that plays to the many moods of the listener. Even more research went into the historical aspect to the songs and more care into the arrangements and recording of the album, which they recorded in their own studio. With over 500 presales on the CD in the United States alone, the anticipation for the album was very high and didn’t fail to deliver.
2012 saw the Coal Creek Boys breaking into the festival and casino circuit playing bigger and better shows all across Alberta, Saskatchewan and British Columbia. 2013 sees the boys climbing even higher, playing more and bigger festivals, notably a Saturday evening slot on the main stage of the Calgary folk fest. Come fall they will be hitting the United States, the support for the Coal Creek Boys in the USA has been massive and the boys feel they owe it to them to come down and play their hearts out.
