Bio

The Coalition Crew…
...One of Brisbanes most established Hip Hop groups are at it again! After 3.5 long years since releasing there critically acclaimed debut, The Coalition Crew return to the scene with a matured and highly progressed follow up, the all new double album “Known Unknowns”. Featuring an incredible line-up of local and international guests, with lead single “Cheers” an absolute guaranteed party starter. “Another Day In The Life” feat. New York rap veteran Masta Ace and Wordsworth (both of EMC crew) appearing alongside Aussie Hip Hop pioneer Lazy Grey. “Hazardous” feat. Rising star Mr. Laneous, “Gaining Momentum” an ode to grass roots solidarity feat. Label mates Rainman and emerging mega-diva Kel (of The Kelly Gang). Also featuring collaborations with local freedom fighters Surreal (Grassroots Street Orchestra) and Skinz Markus (Kryptamistik) Known Unknowns spans a variety moods and topics across two disks of lushly arranged instrumentation from some of Qld's finest producers and musicians.
…core members are MC/producer Yuin Huzami (pronounced ‘You and whose army’) bassist/producer Toxic Al and current QLD DMC champion turntablist Nikk C. The Crew frequently incorporate guest MCs into their live sets such as Rainman, Tommy Illfigga, Kel, Skinz Markus, Konekted, and Raman, as well as adding guitarist Tilla and Drummer Joel Alexander for huge all-in live shows.
The Coalition Crew are seasoned performers, have played over 250 live shows across 3 states since forming in 2004 alongside such acts as: Hilltop Hoods, The Herd, TZU, Good Buddha, Butterfingers, Muph & Plutonic, Pegz, Art of War, Bliss and Eso, Brothers Stoney, Reason, People Under The Stairs (USA), Swollen Members (CANADA), Sage Francis (USA), Murs & PSC (USA), Mystro (UK), Fizard, Bluejuice, Combat Wombat, Layla, Bias B, Lazy Grey, Hermitude, Morganics, the list goes on…
From putting on their own shows locally and nationally, as well as playing supports for so many greats, The Coalition Crew are destined to break some serious ground this year when they release their highly anticipated follow up album scheduled for early 2009.
The Coalition Crew’s critically acclaimed self-titled debut CD is distributed nationally through Obese Records and has received healthy rotation on Triple J as well as independent radio stations nationwide. It was Maya Jupiter’s album of the week on March 7 2005.
Some recent career highlights of the group include performing 3 full scale shows at the Woodford folk festivals Bazaar stage and The Grande, and recently playing at the Melbourne and Brisbane Obese Block Parties to a sell out crowd of around 1000 fans per show.
performing at Big Day Out 2006, an interview in Stealth Magazine issue 13 (and a track on the issue’s CD) and a track on the Airheads 2 Compilation (“Make Beats” featuring Len One) and a song on Battle Hoggs mixtape hosted by Brad Strut.
In 2008 all members have been busily working on a number of projects:
Long time promoter and host MC Yuin Huzami, having already had a hand in releasing 4 albums nationally (2 x Solotaro EP’s, solo album Making Tracks and Coalition self titled debut) has recently founded United Notions Records, an indy label distributed through Obese Records (Hilltop Hoods) to get behind a number of other quality local acts and assist them in getting their messages across to a wider audience. Having just released Rainman’s “Fire in the Belly” and Tommy Illfigga’s “The Unfiltered EP” nationally to critical acclaim, he is utilizing the 9 odd years of Industry experience he possesses to promote other up and coming artists and to further cement his positive role in the music industry.
Bass player/producer Toxic Al is set to release his second solo album entitled “Dooms Day Device”, a dark and moody Instrumental journey through the mind of this thoughtful and highly prolific producer. Set for release early next year through Hydrofunk Records.
Nikk C (current QLD DMC Champion) is known for playing a part in almost every local Hip Hop show in the past few years, he also performs regularly with other local acts such as Rainman, The Optimen and more.
