"The Cocks, Tuesday Morning Hangover"

The Cocks, Tuesday Morning Hangover (SONec). Six years and a sobering dose of tragedy went into the breezy bar-rock band’s first album, which fans of Sparklehorse and early Wilco will dig. And while history is complicated, the music isn’t. Also available at www.thecocksonline.com

"The rise of The Cocks"

After more than six years in the studio while playing stages across Delaware, The Cocks are finally ready to unveil their debut album, “Tuesday Morning Hangover.”Phil Young and Mark Stallard, who share singing and songwriting duties, have been working on the album in Young’s New Castle basement studio ever since the collapse of Young’s previous band, The Knobs, in 2004. Drummer Pete Romano rounds out the power trio headlining Saturday night’s show in Newark at Mojo Main, 270 E. Main St., starting at 9. Fans of The Knobs will especially be drawn to songs like the slow burn pop of “(This Is) The Test.” Other stand-outs include Stallard’s ultra-catchy “Drive Me Crazy” and the banjo-tinged rocker “Too Long.” (Check out all three tracks here.)The Cocks will be joined by a trio of veteran Delaware acts to fill out the night of music: Caterpillar, Tony Travalini & the Still Lives and Sam Smick. There is a $7 cover and copies of “Tuesday Morning Hangover” will be sold for $3 at the show.

Bio

Isolation, hope, death, aspiration and loss. These are all subjects everyone deals with in their own personal lives and these are the subjects that The Cocks explore in their musical landscape. Part therapy session, part story telling, each song is steeped in that songwriters own experiences. A Cocks song is an exploration into the human condition of 21st Century America, a story told through the rock-n-roll aural assault of bass, guitar and drums. The Cocks songs are a celebration of the experiences and the complexities of life that make us who we are. You could call their music the bastard child of The Clash and The Replacements, having a polygamist relationship with The Kinks and The Beatles all the while lusting after Yo La Tengo, Wilco, Spoon and Built To Spill. In other words, rock and roll with heavy doses of late 70 punk rock, early 80 mid-west garage rock and 60's Brit-Pop with a keen eye on modern alt-rock.
