Bio

The Cohee is a folk rock based acoustic trio out of rural Harnett County, North Carolina. All three members, Vince Tricarico (guitar, vocals, harmonica), Stephen Senter (6-string banjo, vocals, harmonica), and Jordan Dixon (djembe, congas, vocals) are currently students at Campbell University in Buies Creek, North Carolina.

Vince, from Milford, New Jersey, has played in several bands over the years, including playing lead in a jam band at Wingate University. Vince’s main influences include Phish, Keller Williams, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and Blind Melon. Jordan has been playing percussion, namely the Djembe, since he was a young child in Seattle. He currently lives in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. His musical influences range from Pink Floyd, to Tool, to Bob Marley. Stephen, from Browns Summit, North Carolina, began playing music in a number of alternative rock groups in High School. In college he began focusing more on acoustic music. His influences include The Avett Brothers, Old Crow Medicine Show, Doc Watson, and Yonder Mountain String Band.

Stephen and Jordan met and began playing together in the fall of 2006. Luck led them to meet Vince in September of 2007 at a local coffee shop. The three have been playing and recording together ever since. The fact that the three of them hail from different parts of the country plays a large part in their musical diversity and fusion of various styles, including rock, bluegrass, jam bands, and folk rock. Playing music is their passion, and it shows in their live performances, bringing to the table melodic three part harmonies, heart-piercing lyrics, high energy, and a robust blend of originality.

Since the start of the band in September of 2007, The Cohee have finished their first demo, Box Turtle Chronicles EP, have nearly finished their first full length album, and have recently begun to consistently play shows across North Carolina.

"Cohee" was a term used in the 18th and 19th century in the Old American South to describe a cultural group. The “cohee” were typically Scots-Irish, poor, non-slave owning farmers trying to make it in the backcountry frontier of North Carolina and Virginia. They oftentimes found themselves at odds with the “tuckahoe”, the wealthy plantation owners of the coastal plains. Historically speaking, the “cohee” were a hard-working, fiercely independent everyday type of people. Vince, Stephen, and Jordan all consider themselves a modern day version of these people.
