What do you get if you combine a Welsh-English drummer, American guitarist, London born bassist and half Iraqi half French frontman? Well, apart from an immigration officer’s worst nightmare, when it comes to The Collectable Few you also get an alphabet of darkly lyricised femur twitchers that demand you to dance, or you’ll be sitting alone.
Formed in West London in 2008 The Collectable Few are already proving to be a powerful weapon in the battle of band fans fed up of making do with the banal, formulaic indie-pop of recent years. And catching them live it’s easy to see why. Lead singer Tarek is more at home writhing around in the crowd when howling their cloud piercing choruses than shying behind the mike. While drummer Alex’s skin pounding skills pierce the four-piece’s pummelling wider than a desert highway guitar and bass lines with pin prick precision.
But it’s not just their expanding legion of fans who love them for their gig performances. The foursome recently inked a one single deal with XL imprint Salvia records – home of rising stars such as Theoretical Girl and Nic Nell. Due out May the chosen track, Missing Out, is a thundering orgasmic snippet of soaring guitar melancholia that still grasps tightly to the pop values of any good floor-filler.

The Collectable Few were created in West London in 2007. Two old friends, guitarist Nat Cantor and bassist Tom Christensen, met Tarek Al-Shammaa in a local alehouse and the three were instantly united in their appreciation of insalubrious popular music.
In the following weeks the band started to write together and set about finding a fourth member, one who could play drums with skill as well as enthusiasm. The popular Camden drummer Alex 'Palex' Hammond was recommended by everyone who knew a thing or two and was soon providing an aggressive danceable backbone to the songs.
Playing their first show in November 2007, The Collectable Few have been gigging at top London venues like Proud Galleries, Notting Hill Arts Club, Punk, The Old Blue Last and The Luminaire delivering memorable sets with the likes of We Have Band, Cazals and The Social amongst many others.
Their hard work is already showing signs of paying off - radio play from XFM, BBC 6 Music and NME Radio has already been notched up, and the band's debut single, the hard-hitting 'Missing Out', is due out this summer on XL imprint Salvia.
