The Color Fred

The Color Fred

BandRockFolk

The Color Fred is a band that wears their hearts on their sleeves. Every note played, every word sung, is something so extraordinary. It's like a firecracker for the senses.

Biography

This started as a side project, Breaking Pangaea. That then turned into The Color Fred which was mainly Fred playing guitar and singing. Fred was backing vocals and guitar player in Taking Back Sunday. Now The Color Fred is a full-time project. This band in no way mirrors Taking Back Sunday. There is a more folker, upbeat, power pop feel to The Color Fred. On the 30th of October of last year, Bend to Break, the first full-length LP was released. The whole album was actually recorded mainly by Fred. Vocals, guitar-you name it-Fred played it.

Lyrics

If I Surrender

Written By: Fred Mascherino

I’m gonna choke when it really counts
I’m gonna get kicked when I’m down
I’ll give you so much satisfaction you’ll drown in it, in it

I’m gonna trip at the highest speed,
Play so bad your ears will bleed
I’ll give you so much satisfaction you’ll need a rest just to breath

And all this fighting will amount to nothing more
You bend to break, I did it before
Is it gonna be easier
Is it gonna be more than I can take
If I surrender, if I surrender
Is it gonna be easier
Is it gonna be more than I can take
If I surrender, if I surrender

My heart breaks and I feel no pain
My voice cracks yet it’s still the same
I’ll give you so much satisfaction you’ll blame yourself for once
Apologize for what I never did
My darkest secrets and everything I hid
I’ll give you so much satisfaction you’ll quit your complaining
But I know you never will

And all this fighting will amount to nothing more
You bend to break, I did it before
Is it gonna be easier
Is it gonna be more than I can take
If I surrender, if I surrender
Is it gonna be easier
Is it gonna be more than I can take
If I surrender, if I surrender

They took from you all they could get
You hold on tight to what is left (you’ll never give up like you used to)
They took from you all they could get
You hold on what did you expect (you’ll never give up like you used to)
You’ll never give up like you used to
You’ll never give up like you used to

Is it gonna be easier
Is it gonna be more than I can take
If I surrender, if I surrender
Is it gonna be easier
Is it gonna be more than I can take
If I surrender, if I surrender

Is it gonna be easier (oh)
Easier Oh, will it amount to nothing more
You bend to break, just like before

I’m gonna choke When it really counts
I’m gonna get kicked when I’m down
I’ll give you so much satisfaction
When I surrender, I surrender to you.

Get Out!

Written By: Fred Mascherino

I woke up to a drive-thru
Had to hitch a ride to get myself feed
It was late but I know it’s never to late to call you
You’re a good friend with a bad tendency to get in over your head
Don’t you, don’t you fall asleep
(Gonna get us both killed, driving late to Coatesville)
I swear I’ll make it back some day
I swear I’ll make it back

Get out, get out, get out
You’re not driving
Get out, get out, get out
You’re not driving
Get out, get out, get out
You’re not driving
Get out, get out

I woke up on a greyhound to a new town
Then again I was here a month ago
It was your birthday
It fell on a Friday
And I should’ve been there
For that I’m sorry
Reguardless

Don’t you, don’t you fall asleep
(Gonna get us both killed, driving late to Coatesville)
I swear I’ll make it back some day
Someday

Get out, get out, get out
You’re not driving
Get out, get out, get out
You’re not driving
Get out, get out, get out
You’re not driving
Get out, get out

We hit the ice
Just before the telephone pole
We hit the brakes
But there was no escape
We hit the ice
And I see a car in your future
They stitch and they sew and they suit you
But this day will scar
Right now we know how lucky we are
Don’t you fall asleep (We know how lucky we are)
Don’t you fall asleep (I swear I’ll make it back)

Get out, get out
Get out, get out
I swear I’ll make it back some day (get out, get out)
I swear I’ll make it back some day (get out, get out)
I swear I’ll make it back some day (get out, get out)
I swear I’ll make it back (get out, get out)
Get out, get out,
Get out, you’re not driving
Get out, get out
No, not in the state you’re in
Get out, get out
Get out, you’re not driving
Get out, get out, get out, get out, get out

Hate to See You Go

Written By: Fred Mascherino

Many are the hours I lie awake
Trash the room in vain
Try to waste the energy I never spend on you
Lying on this bed, never touch, not right now
If I'm over this by morning
That's a future I can't see

Well I'm gonna hate to see you go
But I've been impossible, I know
Yeah I'm gonna hate to see you go
But I know you're just waiting

When you're young you decide
What you can and cannot take
Promises that you made
That you wish you wouldn't break
This was over, long before we met
This was over, long before

Well I'm gonna hate to see you go
But I've been impossible, I know
Yeah I'm gonna hate to see you go
But I know you're just waiting

See, you are waiting
This was over long before we met
See, you are waiting
This was over long before we met
See, you are waiting
See, you are waiting now

Well I'm gonna hate to see you go
But I've been impossible, I know
I'm gonna hate to see you go
But you will
Oh, you will

Many are the hours I lie awake

I'm gonna hate to see you go, oh oh

This was over long before we met

It Isn't Me

Written By: Fred Mascherino

What's the worst you could feel and you only need a friend
But you say, it isn't me

What's the best time we've had
it's the best I ever had
Still you say, it isn't me

You've got ideas in your head
of someone you could talk to
someone that's forever
And though you've told me twice before
not to count on nothing
My foot is in the door

Watch the time flying by
I guess you'll stay over again
But I won't kid myself, it isn't me

Cause in the morning
when you leave
you won't know I never slept

Cause you were dreaming
No, it isn't me

You've got ideas in your head
of someone you could talk to
and maybe that's forever
And so you told me twice before
And yeah, that's right I'm counting, counting on
My foot is in the door

Just tell me that you're sure
Just tell me that you're sure
That I mean nothing to you
Tell me that your sure
Tell me that your sure
That I mean nothing to you

Don't you think that it's time you admit it to yourself
Maybe I know you better than you care to know yourself
Don't you think that it's time you admit it to yourself
(admitted to yourself)
Ohhh

What's the point for us to talk anymore?
What's the point when there's only something wrong
Maybe this time
If you're crying
Maybe this time
Someone's lying
Maybe this time
Maybe this time
It isn't me

Complaintor

Written By: Fred Mascherino

These four years were a suicide
But you volunteered and kept it alive
So you can't complain, (no you can't complain)
No you can't complain, (no you can't complain)
You can't fix what was born to break
So the marriage lives for the children's sake
And you can't complain, (no you can't complain)
No you can't complain, (no you can't complain)

This is what you signed up for (take me off that list)
This is what you signed up for
And when tomorrow comes you're gonna write a song
You're gonna send it out to me
Cause I'm so vain (no you can't complain)
No you can't complain when you can't come back to me

These four years were a suicide
And you're worse off now cause you did survive
But you can't complain, (no you can't complain)
No you can't complain, (no you can't complain)
Life turns out just a stepping stone
You forget yourself
You should have known (that you can't complain)
You should've known better (no you can't complain)
And now you can't complain when you can't come back to me

This is what you signed up for (take me off that list)
This is what you signed up for

But when tomorrow comes you're gonna write a song
You're gonna send it out to me
Cause I'm so vain (no, you can't complain)
No you can't complain when you can't come back
And when tomorrow comes you're gonna write a song
You're gonna send it out to me
Cause I'm so vain (no, you can't complain)
No you can't complain when you can't come back to me

You can't come back to me
This will end (this will end)
If you choose
To do nothing, nothing
This will end (this will end)
If you choose
To do nothing, nothing
This will end (this will end)
If you choose
To do nothing, nothing, nothing
But I can't live like this (I can't live like this)
No I won't be here

And when tomorrow comes you're gonna write a song
You're gonna send it out to me
Cause I'm so vain (no, you can't complain)
And when tomorrow comes you're gonna write a song
You're gonna send it out to me
Cause I'm so vain (no, you can't complain)
And when tomorrow comes you're gonna write a song
You're gonna send it out to me
but you can't complain to me

I Didn't See

Written By: Fred Mascherino

You always said be careful what you might wish for
You always said Karma could cut both ways
I never see you anymore
I should have thought before I drove you away
I drove you away

I didn't see how much you did
I didn't see till you were gone
Till you were gone

You always said good things don't last forever
Well it's a good thing that you never thought much of me
(and do you think of me still please still)
I never see you anymore
I should have thought before I threw it all away
(where are you now)
I threw it all away

I didn't see how much you did
I didn't see till you were gone
Till you were gone
I didn't see how much you did
I didn't see till you were gone
Till you were gone

I didn't see how much you did
I didn't see till you were gone
Till you were gone

Till you were gone

Empty House

Written By: Fred Mascherino

I pace the floors this empty house
Compare its contents to myself
The phone keeps ringing
I know they could never help
Sometimes it's worse to have the time
Then never have it for yourself
I wish I knew you half as much as I can tell

And why does the road I walk not comfort me?
My minds always racing down some other street

We cut that conversation short
Before it starts all that again
Maybe we ought to get it over with
We're scared that we could end it
We count on nothing we don't fear
It's sad to think that theres no guarantees at all
No guarantees at all

And why does the road I walk not comfort me?
My minds always racing down some other street
And why does the road I walk not comfort me?
My hearts always racing, it nearly stopped
When the lights turned red it started to break(Brake)
There was a crash ahead

We pace the floors this empty house
Compare its contents to ourselves And every step I let you down
We cut that conversation short
Before it starts all that again, again, again

I pace the floors this empty house
Compare its contents to myself
The phone keeps ringing
I know, I know, I know, I know

Minnesota

Written By: Fred Mascherino

Coming out of Minnesota
I could see the stars had fallen out of line
I look too deep into your words and try to limit in mine
I saw you coming thru the front door
I couldn't tell what you were thinking
But I would bet on it for damn sure
We were about to get into it again

Put me through hell, swallow your pill
If you don't I know who will
Put me through hell, swallow your pill
If you don't I know who will
Your going to put me through it all again

And as Hemmingway said the sun it also rises
I only saw it set except for those all nighters
And do you want to stay up?
I know where this ends up
I saw you coming thru the front door
I couldn't tell what you were thinking
But I would bet on it for damn sure
We were about to get into it again

Put me through hell, swallow your pill
If you don't I know who will
Put me through hell, swallow your pill
If you don't I know who will

Is this the only solution?
Your going to put me through it again
Is this the only solution?
Your going to put me through it again

Swallow your pill now your patience is running out
Swallow your pill now you can't help to scream or shout
makes me sick, is all is all
makes me sick, is all is all
makes me sick, is all is all
makes me sick, is all is all

Is this the only solution?

Put me through hell, swallow your pill
If you don't I know who will
Put me through hell, swallow your pill
If you don't I know who will (know who will)
Your going to put me through it again
If you don't I know who will
Your going to put me through it again
If you don't I know who will
Is this the only solution?
If you don't I know who will
Well its the only solution?
And I know who will

I'll Never Know

Written By: Fred Mascherino

Why does it hurt every time she leaves
If it doesn't mean a thing I wont worry
Something must be wrong cause it never leaves
If it doesn't mean a thing I wont worry

Well maybe I'm just missing this
And nothing's missing from this kiss
Or maybe I'm just thinking of it wrong
Cause she's my best friend
She's my best friend

And I nearly lost her easy
Just like you'd lose some change
Now she changed mine forever
And I'll never be the same
I can try to move on lonely
She might never let me go
Why do we have these thoughts
I'll never know
I'll never know

Why does she look at me that way
Well I nearly lost her easy
Just like you'd lose some change
Now she changed mine forever
And I'll never be the same
I could try to move on lonely
She might never let me go
And why do we, why do we
Oh why do we, why do we
Oh why do we, why do we
Why do we have these thoughts
Why do we have these thoughts
I'll never know
Never know

Don't Pretend

Written By: Fred Mascherino

Don't pretend to care
Don't apologize
Don't tell me I'm right
I know what's not mine

Responsibility, is a four letter word 'round here
Where the lines tend to blur
But I smell the smoke on you dress
I know exactly where you were

Don't pretend to care
Don't apologize
Don't tell me I'm right
I know what's not mine

The underhandedness, oh the stories that were told
They meant nothing then, now make so much sense
Don't say a word, it already shows
Well the emperor he's marching down that street
But he's not wearing any clothes

Don't pretend to care
Don't apologize
Don't tell me I'm right
I know what's not
Well I know what's not
And I know what's not
And I know what's not
And I know what's not mine
I know what's not
And I know what's not
And I know what's not mine

You could try to see
you've been trying me
No way to forgive
What's it worth now
Well you know its not so

Don't pretend to care
Don't pretend to care
Don't pretend to care
Don't pretend to care
You know what's not right
I know where you stand
And I know what's not mine
