The Color Truth

 Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA
BandAlternativePop

Honest pop. The Color Truth is nothing scientific -- Four guys with a simple mutual desire to write timeless great songs they believe in. And perform them with hearts wide open.

Biography

Some bands rely on gimmicks or novelties to win an audience. The Color Truth rely on making great music. In a relatively short time, the Milwaukee-based quartet has won an ever increasing audience with its remarkable brand of straight from the heart rock; a blend of unforgettable melodies, intelligent lyrics, and powerful music. The Color Truth's current, debut EP, Proof Of Life, is evidence of the band becoming one of the best emerging acts from the Midwest.

Comprised of Zach Steinbach on lead vocals and guitar, David Streese on lead guitar, Dana Nielsen on bass, and Frank Babeck on drums, the band is a musical partnership in which the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. "Our goal is to make honest music - our own straightforward pop/rock," declares Zach.

After forming in late 2006 and playing their first show together at Milwaukee's Summerfest in July of 2007, The Color Truth entered the studio in early 2008 to record Proof Of Life. By all accounts, the band's breakthrough came during the recording of "Moment Of Release." As Zach recalls, "We needed to create a mood with the song - contemplative, reflective and emotional. We really had to strive to reach it, but when we were laying those huge sounds down, we knew we captured it. It was then we knew that we really had something as a band."

The band is currently gigging two or three nights a month, focused on building upon their hometown buzz and following. "We've barely scratched the surface of what we're capable of," says Zach-"We're committed to getting this EP in front of people and having these songs heard." Quality, timeless songs delivered in epic live performances can only imply a bright future and rewarding career for The Color Truth. This is music worth listening to. This is a band worth rooting for.

Lyrics

If

Written By: Zach Steinbach

So I’ll set the tempo by the speed of this clock
for all the good advice I’ve taken from tick tick tock
For all that’s uncertain this for sure is a lie –
I always get my timing right

If I had a chance I lost it I gave it to somebody else
If I said I’d never want it I was lying to myself
If I kept all this regret then I threw away the rest
If’s what’s left

And I knew we felt the same things as we both hung up so slow
I could hear your heavy sigh like I still had your voice on the line
If things were different is too easy to say
Don’t say you’re sorry This is not your fault babe

If I had a chance I lost it I gave it to somebody else
If I said I’d never want it I was lying to myself
If I kept all this regret then I threw away the rest
If’s what’s left

If you don’t get it yet don’t waste your time no
It’s just my way of holding onto what could have been
Masochistically reliving trying not to understand what’s done and said

Oh I had a chance I lost it I gave it to somebody else
If I said I’d never want it I was lying to myself
If I kept all this regret then I threw away the rest
If’s what’s left

Moment of Release

Written By: Zach Steinbach

Oh I think it’s time to put the past away
Don’t use the excuse that it’s hard to look away
Oh this I know because it feels like home
It’s a house that’s better off in flames

This is the moment of release

Oh and don’t be surprised if nothing stays the same
It’s a crawl in the dark It’s a step into the rain
On earth we cry – It’s the proof of life
It’s not just the blood under the bandage it’s the healing on your pain

This is the moment of release

So let go

Hold your breath and count to three
Pull the thorn and watch it bleed
Watch the light fade in from red
Dry your eyes and start again

Fall Apart (On Me)

Written By: Zach Steinbach

She said You don’t even know the half of what I’m feeling
This place has broken my bones I have no one to heal me
I looked her straight in the eyes said You know that is a lie

Don’t cry to me Give it just a little time You know you’re gonna be alright
But don’t run away yet If it ever gets that hard baby you can fall apart on me

Fly me drive me I don’t care Do what it takes to help me
get myself far out of here In some speed would help nicely
I wish you’d just understand you don’t need me holding your hand

Don’t cry to me Give it just a little time You know you’re gonna be alright
But don’t run away yet If it ever gets that hard baby you can fall apart on me

No I’ll never be too far but girl you’re stronger than you think you are
You and I should talk this out there’s bound to be someone that we can both agree about
If it isn’t you well then we’ll know it’s me and I will help you out

Don’t cry to me But don’t run away yet
If it ever gets that hard baby you can fall apart on me

Words or Letters

Written By: Zach Steinbach

So this is my call to you in the middle of a crowded room
And the look in your eyes when mine they met
was just one thing I could never forget Oh no

Across a crowded room we’d say hello never needing an a e i u or an o
And that’s just one indication of good communication
when all that she needs you to tell her can be said never needing words or letters

I can’t quite talk right now I don’t even think that I know how
But if I had the right to speak you would hear every little part of me
Every part of me

Across a crowded room we’d say hello never needing an a e i u or an o
And that’s just one indication of good communication
when all that she needs you to tell her can be said never needing words or letters

Yeah my smile says you’re wonderful
This stare means you’re beautiful
Something that I find just so unbelievable is this could be taking me anywhere
but I don’t care as long as it’s you that’s leading me

Across a crowded room we’d say hello never needing an a e i u or an o
And that’s just one indication of good communication
when all that she needs you to tell her can be said never needing words or letters

Counting Sheep

Written By: Zach Steinbach

Counting Sheep

It’s 5am and I can’t sleep My mind’s racing
I guess tomorrow I’ll be facing what a “Sleep on it” didn’t get a chance to fix
So I’ll just lay here counting the stars or even maybe sit and ponder the miles to Mars ‘cause after number eighteen I ran out of counting sheep

They went one two three – You’re right
At ten through twelve – I lied

But if I hadn’t wasted all of this energy finding new ways to call you my enemy
we could just close our eyes and say good night

The drops on the roof are taking their turns We aren’t the ones who lit the fires on the bridges you’re burning We heard it was you and we’re scared it’s true
You and me we’re like thunder and lightning Go ahead try and count the seconds darling Oh but there’s no delay It’s just think then say

And at four five six – Nice try
At the first three teens – Good bye

But if I hadn’t wasted all of this energy finding new ways to call you my enemy
we could just close our eyes and say good night

I opened my mouth before my head found out
Now I’ll wait for you to turn yours back around

And at seven eight nine – I’m sorry
And at all the rest – Just forget me please

‘Cause if I hadn’t wasted all of this energy finding new ways to call you my enemy
we could just close our eyes and say good night
