"THE COMMAND RADIO TO PLAY RUTGERSFEST 08!"

"The band’s sound filled the Livingston Student Center auditorium with the sound of shredding guitars and pounding drum kits.

"The Command Radio is like nothing you’ve ever heard before," said Carol Diaz, a School of Arts and Sciences first-year student. "They have such a unique and soulful sound. When you hear them, you can’t help but move."

Ryan Egan, lead singer of The Command Radio, said the band’s sound is one that has not been heard before." - Christopher Echeverria, The Rutgers University Daily Targum

"NJ'S FINEST"

"When sifting through dozens upon dozens of band submissions this weekend, we came across something unique, funky, and rockin; The Command Radio. As we are die-hard New Yorkers here at Book Student Activities: we're convinced that only three good things have ever come from New Jersey: Bruce Springsteen, Cheap Gasoline that you don't have to pump yourself, and now... The Command Radio." - Book Student Activities.com

"The Command Radio to play Rutgersfest!"

"The Command Radio, which won the battle of the bands and earned the right to open for the three main acts, is the most musically solid performer of the day. It’s a shame that students usually show up late to Rutgersfest, because these guys deserve a crowd. Fun, funky trumpet-driven rock. They avoid the “ska” label because, well, they aren’t ska. But they have taken a ska sound and evolved it into a more well-rounded rock. And if you happen to take in any substances beforehand — not that we would ever encourage that — these guys seem like they could give a pretty solid jam band show for you to sway and nod with."
- Rutgers University 41 Miles to Freedom

"The Command Radio Play Bamboozle!"

"When the wah wah guitar and pulsing bass line of "Browntown Rock," the album opener on The Command Radio's debut, "Electric War Demos," hits your ears, it digs in hard and drills its way through your skull. Funky like the Headhunters on quaaludes after a Hendrix binge, and with enough distorted muscle and raw firepower to fit in happily with most hard rock camps, these Central NJ natives have been writing together for barely a year, yet they still manage to crank out wholesome, ballsy rock." - Chris Castro- The Aquarian Weekly

"TCR's Rutgersfest Performance"

Around 3 p.m., crowds attracted by the sounds of a screaming guitar and a blaring trumpet began to congregate once The Command Radio took the stage. The band, winners of the University's annual Battle of the Bands, demonstrated a funky, soulful and rock style with songs including "Big Mouth Blues," "Voodoo Child" and the upbeat "Feeling of Gold.""I liked the instruments that they used. They had a jam-band kind of feel," said Kathleen Lynch, a Rutgers College sophomore. "I thought it was cool that they used a variety of instruments. They incorporated a kind of jazz and rock sound."

Matt Madurski, a member of The Command Radio and a School of the Arts and Sciences first-year student, said the crowd grew as the act progressed.
"We all had an amazing experience at Rutgersfest," Madurski said. "If it wasn't for [the crowd], we wouldn't have played as well as we did." - Rutgers University Daily Targum

"The Break Contest"

"THE COMMAND RADIO, from South Plainfield NJ grabbed a spot on Bamboozle at The Break/Stone Pony. This is one of the most gifted and hardest working bands I've seen on the entire contest." - Joe Reo (ex singer of Hidden in Plain View

"Indie-Music Review"

Heavy groove, happening horns, 'tudinal vox, and overall great rock vibe! - Indie-Music.com

"The Command Radio"

I have a lot of friends up in Albany who don’t like indie rock and mostly just smoke and listen to STS9 and the Disco Biscuits. There’s nothing wrong with that, in fact some of my best friends are in jam bands. I get it, I really do - you just chill and let the music surround you and it’s sort of like a nice background to your conversation.

The Command Radio - although not quite a jam band, they are musicians who jam. I hear a lot of influences from Jazz music, 80’s dub, and Sublime. These kids can really play and they have a lot of feeling to the music. I wish I was more into the NJ Jam scene - it is full of dudes who can really kick butt on their instruments. The Command Radio will be one of the best if they keep it together.

So, for my friends that only read my blog because you like me and not indie rock - this one is for you - I see this band getting a big following from really pretty rich hippie girls. The kind of girls who never go to your school, are incredibly beautiful, always have like an ounce on them and will make out with you in a tent. The kind of girls who drink good beer and wear bape hoodies and have messy hair. You know the kind I am talking about right?

Command Radio, Please invite me to hang out when this happens and you are playing Moedown. - Eyes for Indie

Bio

Words can’t really describe what The Command Radio experience is like. It’s more than just music or some guys making noise with instruments. What these guys have is a talent that we rarely see anymore. It’s not enough to be musically inclined- you’ve got to feel it- and luckily, they do.
The Command Radio gives off one hell of a vibe. What you don’t expect is what you do experience, and that’s why people remember who they are. These guys have worked extremely hard to establish their own sound. As a result, locals have supported them all the way through, one having said, “I’m just really proud to say that they’re from South Plainfield, you know? This town is so dead and boring; now we’re known for something.”
The band is a solid blend of Rock, Jazz, Funk, Blues, and a whole lot of Soul Power. The original band consisted of Ryan, Joe, Matt, and Paul holding down a heavy sound that had been compared to Herbie Hancock's Headhunters and Jimi Hendrix by Chris Castro of The Aquarian Weekly. "When the wah wah guitar and pulsing bass line of ‘Browntown Rock’, the album opener on The Command Radio's debut, ‘Electric War Demos’, hits your ears, it digs in hard and drills its way through your skull. Funky like the Headhunters on Quaaludes after a Hendrix binge, and with enough distorted muscle and raw firepower to fit in happily with most hard rock camps, these Central NJ natives have been writing together for barely a year, yet they still manage to crank out wholesome, ballsy rock."
The first album, "Electric War Demos", was a huge success among the local band scene and their home town of South Plainfield. The guys took these songs and their success and rode it all the way to a spot at the popular music event, Bamboozle. "THE COMMAND RADIO, from New Jersey, grabbed a spot on Bamboozle at The Break/Stone Pony. This is one of the most gifted and hardest working bands I've seen on the entire contest." -Joe Reo of Hidden In Plain View.

Despite the success and recognition they gained from Bamboozle, the band felt that there was something missing. That’s when they turned to Ike and Taylor (two close friends who had played shows with them in the past) and permanently incorporated them into the band. Ryan stated that they were a “seamless addition”. The horn section completed The Command Radio, and a new exciting style of music was created.
The band recently finished a brand new album called “Take Control” with producer and friend Jake Antelis. The album was recorded over a period of only four days and done almost completely live. This is the groups' second full length album in their short, 16-month career and they have no intention of slowing down. The band’s advice? Expect the unexpected.
Jimi Hendrix once spoke, “You have to give people something to dream on.” The Command Radio generates a sound like no other and those who experience their music are going to feel it. This band is on its way up, and eventually- it’ll be their turn to “kiss the sky.”
