The Compass Bend make indie rock music focused on lyrical and musical depth. Their songs seek to paint musical still frames that detail life's few victories, constant setbacks, travels and lovers won, lost and forgotten. Influences include Johnny Cash, Okkervil River, Bright Eyes and Ryan Adams.

Biography

The Compass Bend is an American indie-rock band that is best known for creating lyrically-driven songs that also rock. When the band formed, it was definitively decided that good lyrics and driving guitars do not have to be mutually exclusive.

The Compass Bend sound is a unique blend of indie and folk rock, whose influences range from Johnny Cash to Bright Eyes to Okkervil River. Ultimately, The Compass Bend sounds like a rough mixture of well whiskey and midnight drives, with less tears and more grit. Their songs tend to focus on big issues, and often tell stories of fading memories and searching for meaning and fulfillment in our modern world.

Who the hell are these guys?

Sean Connaughty is a multi-instrumentalist with major skills on the guitar, keys and is possibly best known for his musical engineering wizardry.

Scotty Saunders is lead vocalist and provides a unique vocal approach to songs. He also plays guitar.

Both Scotty and Sean dream up the numbers and then rely on a rotating rhythm section of musically-gifted friends to bring the songs to life in a live setting. Geographically, the two are from the South (Texas and Georgia), and a lot of that culture and way of life creeps into their music. The Compass Bend brings a new and distinct sound to the Denver music scene and is developing a fan base with their passionate and raw live sound.

Discography

The Compass Bend are in the process of recording their first EP titled, The Archer's Bow, which is expected to be released in Summer of 2010.
