"The Crash Moderns - EP Review"

Not Lame loves hearing these promising young pop bands coming out of nowhere. Fans of Rooney, The Blakes, The Waking Hours, Hotsocky and Phantom Planet are going to love, love this! Lots of the keyboard influence you find in the Cars' best pop material keep a bit of grounding in pop's past, but it's a very 2005 update of the kind of power pop sound that can over-take not only the air waves but reach past the music geek world.

Bonus, big bonus: This is produced by both Ron and Bart from The Churchills so you know that's a plus! "If Marvelous 3 had a head-on collision with Cheap Trick, the end result would sound something like the glorious power-pop-rock in evidence on The Crash Moderns' self-titled debut EP...with killer tracks like the perfect bubblegum rock of the opener, This Time, its clear he has moved onto bigger and better things. Crunchy guitars combine with layers of synths to create a modern yet retro vibe thats totally dominated by huge choruses and hooks; its a formula repeated on the brilliant Hello World and Everything At Once. (It's All) is delivered with all the swagger and bombast of a band that knows they are going places fast. The full-length album can't come soon enough." (Ink19)

Well-rounded, hook-driven and highly layered vocals rule the day and pounding pop melodies explode around every corner. It's the type of commercial power pop that the masses who picked up Rooney and Maroon 5 would welcome, not just the Not Lame/power pop crowds. Built on beefy rhythms and unforgettable riffs, The Crash Moderns soar effortlessly to a place where joy, goose bumps, and repeated listens are unavoidable. The rush of guitars and classic vocal pop stylings make this an exhilarating, refreshing and spectacular debut. Don't miss out on the future of power pop.

Big Time Extremely Highly Recommended! - Not Lame Records

"The Crash Moderns - EP & Live Show Review"

In April, while attending the International Pop Overthrow Festival in Chicago, I happened to catch The Crash Moderns at Wise Fool’s Pub. After being blown away by their set, I asked the guys for a copy of their self-titled CD.

Their sound (and look) pays loving homage to The Hamburg Beatles, The Ramones and The Cars, with a small dose of Greg Khin for good measure. These guys are all about writing great singles.

This Time finds lead Modern Danny Roselle sounding like a hard-edged Joe Jackson. For a devout pop band, these guys rock straight outta the box.

Everybody Hates Me has one of the catchiest choruses I’ve heard in years. Keyboardist Matt Jaworski tosses in some cheerful fills a la Greg Hawkes of The Cars. This is just one of the many cool things about The Crash Moderns. You just don’t hear people copping The Cars. Everything old is indeed new again.

Hello World and All About You find The Moderns covering territory that bridges the gap between retro pop and today’s modern alternative rock. I can’t leave out the effectiveness of guitarist Jon Matias, bassist Eric Shean and drummer Doug Schmitt. Every member is as solid as the rest, playing just the appropriate part on each track.

I swear that I’ve heard Everything At Once before, but I just can’t put my finger on where. It was probably at a junior high school basement party back in ‘81. This tune would spin nicely between The Knack’s Good Girls Don’t and Off Broadway’s Stay In Time.

This band appears to have just about everything going for them. You will be seeing their videos on MTV and hearing their songs on the radio very, very soon. I have no doubt of that. This one will easily make my top twenty of ‘05 list at the end of the year.

"The Crash Moderns - EP Review"

If Marvelous 3 had a head-on collision with Cheap Trick, the end result would sound something like the glorious power-pop-rock in evidence on The Crash Moderns’ self-titled EP.\

Lead singer Danny Roselle was once part of New Jersey's No Soap Radio (who scored a cameo performance on The Sopranos, no less), but with killer tracks like the perfect bubblegum rock of the opener, “This Time,” it’s clear he has moved onto bigger and better things. Crunchy guitars combine with layers of synths to create a modern yet retro vibe that’s totally dominated by huge choruses and hooks; it’s a formula repeated on the brilliant “Hello World” and “Everything At Once.” The sassy “Everybody Hates Me” oozes contemporary cool, while a reworked version No Soap Radio's “All About You” serves as a lesson in how to write the perfect three-minute pop-rock song. The EP is delivered with all the swagger and bombast of a band that knows they are going places fast. The full-length album can’t come soon enough. - Ink 19

"Crash Moderns bring retro rock to Spring Break"

With hair that’s been compared to the infamous manes of Flock of Seagulls and an all-black wardrobe, The Crash Moderns may look like moody, brooding rock stars, but their music is anything but dark.

The New York band’s sound is a blend of sunny retro-rock with a modern twist that has been compared to the sounds of The Marvelous 3, Cheap Trick and Elvis Costello.

“Our influences stem from everything we love about pop music -- from The Cars to Elvis Costello to The Clash. We love it all. It's all pop rock and I can't tell you the wide spectrum of bands that people say we remind them of. It’s all good,” lead singer Danny Roselle told Ink 19.

The band -- comprised of guitarist and lead singer Danny Roselle, Tommy Eichmann on keyboards and vocals, Anthony Costa on bass and vocals, guitarist Mikey Vranez and drummer Greg Wirbickas -- is on the verge of releasing their first full-length album, “Goodnight Glamour, Good Morning Disaster” this month. Roselle, the group’s chief lyricist is the brains behind the catchy hooks that have lead to the band’s growing popularity.

“Usually the things that bother me are the things that come out the easiest -- failed relationships, crazy ex-girlfriends, eviction notices,
things that amuse the crap out of me because they are too unbelievable yet true,” Roselle told Blog Critics Magazine about his lyrics. “I'm a really sarcastic person to begin with so I tend to have fun ripping on people within our songs, unbeknownst to them of course.”

After lead singer Danny Roselle left No Soap Radio -- a band better known for their music on HBO’s "The Sopranos" -- the Crash Moderns formed in 2004.

Original members wrote and released a self-titled EP soon afterward. Since then, The Crash Moderns have toured with major label acts American Hi-Fi, Bowling for Soup and Lifehouse, according to their MySpace biography. But perhaps their biggest stint yet has been opening for 80s rock gods Bon Jovi in their home state.

THE CRASH MODERNS will perform Sunday at Louie's Backyard on South Padre Island. Tickets will be sold at the door and prices weren't available at press time. For more information, visit myspace.com/thecrashmoderns

"The Crash Moderns - Good Night Glamour, Good Morning Disaster - CD Review"

A mix of Pop/New wave rock and a modern feel bring light to this release by The Crash Moderns, Good Night Glamour, Good Morning Disaster. Think a mix of Lit meets Sugarcult. A great album to kick-start your day. This 11 songs album is a feel good record with extra additions.

These short songs are to the point with no room for error. The electronic vibe, hand claps and instant rock gratification will turn your frown upside down. You get all the qualities of an electronic based band but with the proper radio element. The album opens with a melodic rocker and catchy hook driven song This Time. This is the definition of the groups overall sound. Oh's follow the opener in this tune Pimp My Life. This could be right on an I-pod commercial. Catchy upbeat guitars and just an overall happy song. This has single material all over it. The electronics come back in an almost happier Orgy-like tune Where'd All the Scene Girls Go. Think Econoline Crush on their pop-ier tracks for this one.

The throwback song Everybody Hates Me reminds me of a better Puddle Of Mudd riff opening the tune. The song opens into a full out melodic brigade then gets right back nto the swaying riffs. Notice Me is the ballad off the album and should be an instant radio killer. With radio single written all over this one too, the slower drive and amazing vocal display will capture the mood of any audience and would be a great closer in the set. This will be a fan favorite as the band switches it up and shows off their emotional side and their heartfelt side.

The rest of the album picks up after the slower track and gets us right back into the pop-ier rocking side of things. There are so many tracks on this album that have single written all over it. I think that’s why this album will be so popular. There aren't many tracks on the album that you will skip. They all fit together but also have their own individual vibe, making this record a hit. Definitely an album to check out if you like a mix of all styles, great vocal production and catchy tunes that will remain in your head for days.

"The Crash Moderns - Good Night Glamour, Good Morning Disaster - CD Review"

Taking that old power-pop sound we all love with driving guitars and catchy melodies that bands such as The Cars and Cheap Trick made popular. The problem is a lot of bands try to go in this direction and usually their releases never see the light of day. But I think this will be the contrary for The Crash Moderns who rock like Bowling For Soup, SR-71, and The All American Rejects. The musicianship is exactly what you expect, nothing to write home about but sometimes simplicity is the key and the Crash Moderns demonstrate exactly that. For most of these songs I could picture one day in the near future seeing a hip music video for on MTV, or Fuse, especially the second track “Pimp My Life”. An all around good job, by a band stuck in a genre that seems to be getting weaker and less exciting by the minute.

"The Crash Moderns - Good Night Glamour, Good Morning Disaster - CD Review"

New York five-piece The Crash Moderns have finally dished up their debut platter of power-pop magnificence with Goodnight Glamour, Good Morning Disaster.

The guys appeared on my radar a year or two ago, via the infamous myspace friend request. Having checked them out, I was instant hooked on catchy album-opener 'This Time', still probably my favourite track on the album. Not to say it goes downhill from here on in... far from it!

Slick and stylish is the way I would describe 'Goodnight Glamour'. You can hear influences drawn from the likes of Elvis Costello, Butch Walker and The Marvelous 3, some people hear The Cars and Cheap Trick in there too. It all sounds very professional and effortless. With a laid-back feel, this album exudes quality without feeling forced, like the guys are just doing what comes naturally. 'Goodnight Glamour' is one to chill out with if we get a summer this year!

The Crash Moderns really do deserve to be massive, but have they hit the scene a couple of years too late? I hope not. It would be an injustice if The Crash Moderns join Butch in the 'criminally underrated, missed the boat' category. Maybe the megabucks of superstardom might not be around the corner, but the satisfaction of being on top of their game with a great album should provide some consolation. But then again, the underground scene always was so much cooler...

"The Crash Moderns - Good Night Glamour, Good Morning Disaster - CD Review - 5 of 5 Black Hearts"

"When I feel less scattered, you're the one that matters this time" sings Danny Roselle in "This Time", first track of The Crash Moderns' long-awaited debut CD. "Good Night Glamour Good Morning Disaster" - and this time, The Crash Moderns are what matter. Their album is a top class release full of high quality music. Every track is a sing-along, glittery gem. The band bloom thanks to their instantly lovable guitar and keyboard driven power pop tunes. Alongside three of the band's long-time favourites, "This Time", "Everybody Hates Me" and "Hello World" which appeared on the band's previous EP, there are new numbers such as the sultry "We've Got Tonite" which makes you want to handclap and strut your stuff and "Where'd All The Scene Girls Go", a song with a slightly dark element to the verses but a buoyant uplifting chorus. The band branch out towards ballad territory with the slower "Notice Me" and close with the reflective and tender "Closer is Better".

"Good Night Glamour..." will make you wish that The Crash Moderns were closer. 'Cause like they say, closer is definitely better. - Black Velvet - June 2008
