The Crows
After a 20-year hiatus, Nashville-based string band, The Crows, are back together making music.

The Crows are Sue Braswell, Jack Sundrud and Keith Miles, with assistance from a host of pickers from around the country.

The band was a frequent performer at music venues around music city in the late 1980s and early 90s, including The Bluebird, Station Inn and Windows on the Cumberland and in Johnson City. Fans enjoyed the band’s tongue-in-cheek lyrics.

The group has remastered and re-released their 1991 album, “One Flew Over the Cornfield,” and are working on a new collection of recordings for release in fall, 2011.

“We all got very busy with jobs, raising children and what-have-you and put it all aside,” said Braswell, a Bristol, TN native who teaches in Metro schools. “We are finally at a place in our lives where we can devote time to the Crows music again, and that is very exciting.”

Not that the performance break meant all musical endeavors were shelved. Sundrud, who was part of the country group Great Plains in the early 90s, continued to work on his own music career, releasing several solo albums, co-writing hit songs (including the #1 hit song, "It Must Be Love" - co-written with Craig Bickhardt - for country artist Ty Herndon) and performing as a member of Poco.

The three penned the song, “Iola,” which was recorded by Great Plains, as was “Homeland,” which was written by Sundrud and Miles. Country great Kenny Rogers also recorded “Homeland” on his album, “There you go again.”

Miles released two solo albums, with Sundrud as producer and co-writer. His 2008 release, “Beyond the Headlights,” made several best-of Americana lists in Europe. Miles also contributed to a compilation album released in Sweden in 2010, and has plans to contribute to another similar effort this year.

The Crows are scheduled to appear in the Owl’s Hill Music on the Meadow series in August with special guest Michael Kelsh. The group is also scheduled to appear for the Bristol Rhythm and Roots festival in Bristol, VA in September.
