The Cuttlefish is the name given to the latest project by musician and songwriter Nate Emsick. While attending graduate school in Iowa, Emsick began performing regularly in venues across the Midwest playing both solo and with various bands. Following the completion of his degree program, Emsick relocated to Austin, Texas where he continued to perform regularly in both solo and group settings. After spending some time in the trenches of the Austin scene, Emsick’s focus began to shift from performing to expanding his instrumental range and learning production and recording techniques.
In 2010, Emsick finds himself back in the midwest and collaborating with a handful of Midwestern musician’s, most notably guitarist and producer Brandon Skeens who also spent several years performing in Austin before returning to Kansas City. The year will also see the release of The Cuttlefish’s debut full length album, Suburban Ghetto Blues, and a series of performances in support of this release.
